And here I am, right in the thick of it. After surviving a contentious fight in the Canadian House of Commons, the federal gay marriage bill should pass easily in the Senate and become law by the end of July, making Canada the third fourth country in the world to legalize gay marriage nationwide, after Spain, which just passed the law today, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The Conservative (the Canadian version of Republican) party leader Stephen Harper says that a major part of his platform in the federal election next year will be opposition to gay marriage. Maybe he should look south before committing to that strategy.

I didn't even know this happened. Damn. And I listen to NPR too. I guess it's so far off for us down here in the U.S. that no one even bothers to talk about it anymore.

Personally, I think there should not be such a thing as marriage for anyone - just everyone living with who they want for as long as they want and up until forever, and no tax breaks for anyone. The tax breaks are supposed to make it easier for straight people to have kids, but we sure don't need anymore of THOSE damn things.

For the record I've been commited for three years now, and don't plan on leaving anytime soon, but I'm glad we're together all this time because we want to be, and not because we're legally bound to be.
