And here I am, right in the thick of it. After surviving a contentious fight in the Canadian House of Commons, the federal gay marriage bill should pass easily in the Senate and become law by the end of July, making Canada the
third fourth country in the world to legalize gay marriage nationwide, after Spain, which just passed the law today, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The Conservative (the Canadian version of Republican) party leader Stephen Harper says that a major part of his platform in the federal election next year will be opposition to gay marriage. Maybe he should look south before committing to that strategy.
