The Huffington Post has obtained letters that land Republican Presidential nominee Mike Huckabee in a big heap of trouble. In 1999, when Huckabee was governor of Arkansas, he pushed to have serial rapist Wayne Dumond released from prison where he was serving a 25-year sentence for the rape of Ashley Stevens, a 17-year-old high school cheerleader at the time, and a distant cousin of former Arkansas governor Bill Clinton.
There was a big push from the conservative press to have Dumond released because they believed governor-at-the-time-of-the-rape Bill Clinton made Dumond’s sentence more severe because of his familial relation to the victim. Never mind that she was raped and sentences for rapists are already too light.
Huckabee succeeded in getting Dumond released, after which Dumond moved to Missouri and raped and murdered two women. Huckabee is of course trying to deny his involvement in this absolutely sick case of political pandering, but it’s hard to argue with all the witnesses who are stepping forward. The Republican field might be down a man in the coming weeks.
