!! OMG why?: Remake of Rosemary’s Baby !!

Michael Bay, the rich asshole who directed “Transfomers”, “Armageddon”, and “Bad Boys” (1 and 2) apparently has his production company revving up to remake Rosemary’s Baby.
Why? Why do they do this? In addition, his IMDB profile shows that he plans to produce a remake of Hitchcock’s “The Birds” among other horror films. I can smell the CG crows from here. Gag.
I guess Gus Van Sant remade “Psycho” and lived to tell the tale…but unlike Bay, he never made the mistake of messing with a classic again.

  1. What confuses me is: why can’t Hollywood writers come up with a NEW story? Why do they have to re-write things that have already been written? No imagination.

  2. Isn’t the reason obviously because such people are creatively bankrupt, and that in a soft market the studios aren’t going to fund a meaningful budget without proof the idea has worked before?
What makes RB a particularly bad choice for a remake though, is that the whole story is based on an air of mystery and the final payoff. How do you remake that when the story is a classic? Can you imagine remaking The Sixth Sense when everyone already knows the ending? Like the Psycho remake you mentioned, what a concept: Let’s remake a classic with lesser actors and a now well worn premise, when the deluxe mega edition DVD of the classic is available at your favorite store or showing on cable. Idiots!

  3. This is wrong, just wrong.

  4. Futuure headline?
    OMG Scarlett Johansson is Rosemary!

I used to get upset over news like this, but these remakes will just bomb at the box office upon their release and fade into obscurity in a year or two. Michael Bay ain’t no Hitchock or Polanski.

  6. OMG Nooooooooo! Bay is one of the worst directors on the planet….and Rosemary’s Baby is one of the best films ever. Leave it be! Let’s hope the curse that plagued Polanski gets Mr. Bay if he goes ahead with this project.
