!! OMG, human rights for apes !!

chimp.article.jpg
Primates in Spain could now be living better than some of its human citizens.
Legislation has just passed giving the animals “the right to life and freedom”.

Using apes in circuses, television commercials or filming will also be banned and while housing apes in Spanish zoos, of which there are currently 315, will remain legal, supporters of the bill have said the conditions in which most of them live will need to improve substantially.

Does that mean that people who work in circuses and act in films are worse off than apes?

I know that animal testing may save human lives, but I am strongly against it anyway. What gives us the right to just use live creatures, in the most cruel ways, how ever we see fit? It may look like we benefit from this, but who is to say that we really do in “the long run”, as it were? I don’t have the answers, but I know I don’t believe we can just play with nature, without concequences…

u know.. how bout spain not be able to use the medical research obtained by animal testing on apes

I think it’s great when contries finally start recognizing that animals are suffering at the hands of man. It really is a shame though, that these types of legilation get passed in far more places than right here in our own back yard. I worked for PETA for 3 years, and in that time I can face to face with many of the cruelties that are inflicted on animals on a daily basis here in this country. I think this is a great step towards awareness. As far as your finally statement.. check out this website to see the creulty the apes face in the filming of commercials and movies..

Good news indeed! Now what about all the Bulls the kill in the most brutal way all year long? I bet they won’t get “The right to life and freedom”, any day soon?! Barbarians…

    Good for the apes!

Does this mean that people who work in fields picking strawberries are worse off then the slaves from our history? Not saying I support gorilla rights, but your last sentence was kinda off. I understand you were trying to be funny, but the key issue of choice was what was missing. But of course a monkey can’t make a choice! 🙂
