Peruvian soprano Yma Sumac passed away on November 1, 2008. She was 86 years young. Yma was one of the most famous performers of exotica music and an insane vocal range. Listen to one of her songs in the video above and learn more about her on HER OFFICIAL SITE.
Well, I'm Peruvian and I did like her music; however, is such a shame that almost no one here has learned that she has passed away.
In any case, I'm also glad like people from overseas remember her, too.
P.S. No, Peruvians don't dress like the characters in "Flash Gordon"; those are Andean-style costumes. Obviously, Yma is wearing a sophisticated version of them.
I'm so glad to find out that I'm not the only non-Peruvian person to remember Yma Zumac. It was terrible to find out this way, of course, but her weird-ass music will live forever in the mind of her freaky fans. ¡Descansa en paz!
