Queen Go-Go Belinda Carlisle spoke to Attitude magazine this month about her gay son (17 years old!), James Duke Mason. Frankly she sounds a little iffy on the whole thing. Who would guess that even a mom who used to play "Corner Cleaners" could get uptight sometimes?
I have to say even though it wasn't that much of a surprise, it was a shock. When he told me I was driving and I had to pull the car over. It is different when it is your child. It's not bad or good... but you start thinking, and I don't mean this negatively, 'Is there something I've done?' I didn't quite understand. More than likely it was a genetic thing.
Just a guess, Belinda, but maybe it had something to do with exposing him to all that Go-Go's music at an early age!

I hope his Republican father Morgan (who was in BC's "Mad About You" video and who sucked as a child playing Elizabeth Taylor's son in the not-so-great Liz/Dick movie "The Sandpiper") is just as okay with it. He grew up in Hollywood (the son of the leading man after whom his own son is named), so he should be a progressive Republican--if they still allow those in the party, or maybe he switched.
He's cute but he still has that child's hair cut and clothes. He will grow into his look. WTF happened to Belinda's face? I don't even recognize her. Her face looks completely different from that video.
Since I live in New York, where the age of consent is 17, I'll say it: he's cute. That said, if he's anything like Mom, you'll have to put a padlock on the fridge in 15 or so years. (I kid!)

Seeing as how Belinda Carlisle recorded a public service announcement in support of marriage equality in Maine, it's hardly fair to characterize her reaction from five years previous as her being "iffy" about her son.
Oh I hate it when they are at that age where you can't say they are hot without feeling like a perv. 'cuz I'd say it too. But what cute pics of a Mother and her son!
