(FYI, Camille Paglia only likes vintage Madonna and some Brazilian pop singer named Daniela Mercury?) Writes Camille in a recent profile of Gaga:

I dunno, seems like some of her arguments are worthy of a closer look. The end of the sex era and death for instance. She did wear a meat carcass to the vma’s for one example. And she really does seem almost anti-sexual in her androidian persona. I’m just saying the lady has some good points.
I always find people amusing, who are so negative towrd Gaga. Many Gaga fans get angry at these comments. I don’t. Great art should make people react. Make them mad, sad, make them feel like they have a place, it will make many scratch their heads. What go art isn’t, is ignored.
Most of the people who have a problem with Gaga are, like me, in their 30’s who say, she is no Madonna. She is no Cyndi. Wow, how we have turned into our parents. I remember my parents saying how those pop stars were just fluff. Nothing like the stars of their generation.
And so the cycle continues.
I’ll grant that she’s correct – LG’s lyrics are insipid nursery rhyme nonsense. But in that sense she’s kinda like Beck (stay with me here) in that the presentation and show are the real point and lyrics are just placeholders. I’m not a huge fan, but I can respect that she’s going for an identity out there as opposed to following trends and hooking the hottest producers.

I agree with C Paglia. I have always been mystified by Lady Gaga’s success. I believe her costumes have an amateurish quality; poorly constructed, nearly a “home-made” appearance.
While I can understand younger people admiring her, she is in no way comparable to other icons ; Madonna, Cher, Cindy Lauper, for instance. This Lady Gaga will be far less popular within five years.
Reading that quote made me laugh, only for the sheer duplicity in it.

I’m not sure this woman got the point or that is ever was to be sexy as opposed to maybe Unique or artistic. Where do you get off telling someone was/is sexy? I had this weird thought that is was subjective, but maybe i was wrong. Or you. No, that can’t be it. right? Gaga was a surprise when she showed up on the music scene about two years ago; and dont get me wrong I’m not talking about the surprise you get when opening a Christmas present, I’m talking about the surprise you get when getting shot in the face.
Gaga came on too strong with her over stylized, over produced and occasionally nightmarish costumes.
Her music while being fun to dance to is completely vapid and uninspired, she’s not in any sense of the word original.
Gaga filled a spot that was missing in the music industry; the clown and sideshow slot.
What fascinated me if the utter awe from people at how “talented” she is. The fact is that Gaga is only a small piece in a huge industrial machinery, a money making machine if you will.
This is clearly seen when watching Gaga on stage, in a music video or listening to her “unplugged” (which is the only time I can stand to listen to her)
I feel like there is a scared girl in there somewhere, screaming “PLZ LOVE ME”.
I’ll give her this, she knows how to manipulate an audience, how to gain popularity by using the system to her advantage and then cashing in the big checks. She now has a power base in many gay men who got lured in by her statements of equal rights and who fell for her “style”…..
She will however continue her trend and will for a while at least enjoy the popularity she does now. MTV did after all give her 8 awards this year, but getting an award from MTV is like getting financial advice from a hobo.
MTV is no longer a respected music channel like it used to be, it’s now a 24h Bimbo Fest, of reality shows and completely moronic series.

Gaga is a crashing, overrated bore. Does she fascinate? I don’t know, I think she just plays dress-up. I don’t want to know anything about her. She is not fascinating or interesting. In contrast, Madonna was awesome from the minute she appeared. She had a life-force and a personality.
Regardless, Gaga is over-exposed. Her management need to get her off the stage and give it a rest for a bit.
