!! OMG, too hot (or gay?) for YouTube: Perfume Genius !!

Matador Records is claiming homophobic bias after YouTube rejected a 15-second pre-roll spot for the new Perfume Genius album showing scantily-clad singer-songwriter Mike Hadreas gazing longingly into the eyes of gay porn star Arpad Miklos. The footage is from PG’s new video “Hood,” which we posted last week.
When the label submitted the ad for review, YouTube/Google rejected it for violating its Adult Image/Video Content policy.
“Any ads that contain non family safe material are disapproved,” a rep wrote to the label in explaining the decision. “I noted to the team that the people in the video are not entirely unclothed, but the overall feeling of the video is one of a more adult nature, including promoting mature sexual themes and what appears to be nude content. As such, the video is non family safe. In order to have this video ad approved, you will need to bring it into compliance with our policy.”
A label rep says he asked for clarification about the problematic bits and what edits it would require, but never received a response. He also pointed out that the song used in the ad, “All Waters,” is about “internalized homophobia – how Mike (Perfume Genius) notices straight couples being affectionate on the street, and how it must feel for them to not have to think about it; he wonders if he would do that with his boyfriend if he wasn’t so self-conscious about gay PDA.”
Or gay pre-roll advertising.
Watch the offending clip after the jump.
