!! OMG, upgrade: Mickey Rourke out, Tom Hardy in to play Gareth Thomas !!

Good news for Gareth Thomas fans: The gay Welsh rugby star won’t be played in his biopic by a 59-year-old Mickey Rourke after all. “I was talking to Mickey yesterday and basically we’re now talking to other big-name actors who could play the part instead,” Thomas revealed in a recent interview. “We had talked about using computer-generated special effects with Mickey but we don’t think that will be as realistic, so it’s time to find someone new.”

That someone new is reportedly Tom Hardy, the English actor who plays the beefy villain Bane in the upcoming film “The Dark Knight Rises.”

  1. I hadn’t heard of this until now but I’m glad that I won’t be seeing Rourke in a movie and even happier that there will be another Tom Hardy movie to see. Rourke is a hack and has gotten lucky recently because of his little Wrestler movie. Tom Hardy is a genuinely good actor.

  2. Best news possibly…ever? Yes.
Mickey Rourke is TOO OLD & just down right scary looking to play Gareth.
Tom Hardy would be so amazing…

  3. Mickey Rourke isn’t believable enough as a a member of the human, to play a human, after all the plastic surgeries he’s undergone.
Tom Hardy on the other hand is not just a very talented actor, but he’s completely Homo Sapience.
    Great choice.

  4. I would’ve preferred seeing Mickey Rourke do a gay role, to be honest.

  5. Thought it was a good project for Mickey Rourke but he was a little too old. Tom Hardy is perfect for the role. Great choice can’t wait to see movie now.

Thank Christ. I’m glad Rourke came to his senses and realized that he would totally ruin this biopic if he played the main character. Tom Hardy is perfect as he’s done a full frontal nude scene before and hopefully there will be plenty of those in this biopic.

  7. I was kind of dreading this movie; as much as I admire Gareth Thomas, Rourke was just too old for the part. Tom Hardy though – perfect.
