Perfume Genius has traded in porn star Arpad Miklos for a new co-star: his mom. “Dark Parts” is the second song off Seattle singer-songwriter Mike Hadreas’ great Put Your Back N 2 It album to receive a music video treatment and his casting decision is not surprising when you consider song’s subject matter. In the the album’s press notes, Hadreas describes it thusly:
This song is about my mom. I was worried about showing her, but she cried through the whole thing. I wanted to take something from her life that wasn’t happy, and turn it in to something triumphant, to remind her how strong and beautiful and loved and important she is. She doesn’t like the last line and says that her dark parts belong to her alone.
