Tina Brown has received a lot of attention over the last week for her latest Newsweek cover depicting Barack Obama as “The First Gay President.” Of all the cover options (above being one of them), Brown said she felt her ultimate choice “communicated the idea in a very kind of smart but at the same time subtle way. Whereas, you know, you can somehow overdo it and it becomes a joke that kind of gets out of hand. I thought this was a chic way of doing it honestly, I thought it did very well.” See the rest of the alternate covers after the jump.

  1. These are all horrible covers (the first one is, perhaps, acceptable). And I’m just speaking from a design, not political, perspective. What kind of awful designers do they have working for Newsweek? I would think that this would be a relatively competitive job to get.

  2. Pity the fools that think Barack Hussein Obama is doing anything for anyone but himself.
This joker knows nothing but his own ego, and serves no one but his pathetic self in a lame attempt to make himself relevant in the midst of his incompetence.

  3. I can only guess that Tina Brown is a homophobic Republican. Any of these covers was met to irritate/inflame those against Obama and those against gay equality. And look at the one where Obama is holding the two men, he was made to resemble Alfred E. Newman, of MAD Magazine. And the one that was used is a ripoff of a Chi Rivera magazine cover from years ago..

Chris, The president can’t change a nation overnight and he doesn’t wield any power to end discrimination. He spoke to the NC issue and was clear that he thought their decision was wrong. Don’t forget that DADT is history and he’s not enforcing DOMA. Careful with your criticizing the President on this issue. He has allied with our community like no leader in history. Don’t be greedy.

  5. This is all one big lie. Obama is trying to have his cake and eat it too. While he says he personally supports gay marriage he also says that the states should be able to decide this issue. Which means, apparently, that the president supports the citizens of North Carolina deciding that marriage is between a man and a woman. Obama also has done nothing to allow federal employees to have domestic partner benefits for same sex couples.
