!! OMG, must-see TV: Patti Smith’s JUST KIDS memoir being adapted into a mini-series by Penny Dreadful co-creator !!

Patti Smith & Robert Mapplethorpe

It seems as if Showtime is adapting rock legend Patti Smith‘s 2010 memoir JUST KIDS into a miniseries!

Smith will produce and co-write, alongside Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful” creator John Logan.

The critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller chronicles the rocker’s adventures and misadventures in New York alongside photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Smith recalls the gritty, bohemian New York City of the ’60s and ’70s. Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix all make cameos, as does the much-mythologized Chelsea Hotel.

“Sometimes [people] seem to think I came out of the womb, you know, cursing, with an electric guitar,” Smith told NPR in 2010. “I think it’s important for people to realize that we were all young, all naive, and also we had lived in a time that had magic.”

Smith says the series will go beyond what readers may expect. “A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation,” Smith stated in a press release for the show.

Oooh, I do hope they get Taylor Swift to play Patti! Or Emma Roberts maybe? Or Tori Spelling?
