Here’s a quote from Will Smith (who turned down Neo in The Matrix to be in the flop Wild Wild West) on why he turned down Jamie Foxx’s role as Django in Quentin Tarantino’s film.
“It was about the creative direction of the story. To me, it’s as perfect a story as you could ever want: a guy that learns how to kill to retrieve his wife that has been taken as a slave. That idea is perfect. And it was just that Quentin and I couldn’t see [eye to eye].”
Apparently Smith spoke with Tarantino for hours, but they couldn’t agree on how the story should be told. Smith thought it should’ve been a love story instead of a revenge story. Uh but — we’re talking about a Tarantino film here, not Hallmark, hon!
