!! OMG, they’ve made it a musical: Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion !!

Romy & Michele the Musical
20 years after the release of the iconic movie starring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion is being given new life with a musical stage adaptation. The show’s book is written by the film’s original screenwriter Robin Schiff, and the music is by cable TV darlings Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay (Orange is the New Black, Weeds).

Our friends at Popbytes interviewed the composers about translating the film to the stage, ’80s and ’90s musical inspirations, their own high school reunion experiences and more.

The show is currently running in Seattle (interestingly, the originating city of Post-It Wars) until July 2 with plans for other cities soon.

  1. Just what we need: another movie onstage. Yawn. I’m planning to be in NYC in Fall and the only movie onstage I want to see is Waitress. The thing is, to do a movie that’s good but not great. The best film to stage adaptations I’ve ever seen were The Full Monty and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Hated Sunset Blvd. (I got dragged to it), Hairspray was passable, Lion King is an exception because of its production values. So along with this we’re getting Pretty Woman and a few others. When will we be seeing No Place for Old Men, the musical?
