!! OMG, help a sister out: Filmmaker Basil Shadid needs your assistance in completing his Jinkx Monssoon documentary ‘Drag Becomes Him’ !!

I’ve always liked Jinkx Monsoon. I saw her perform once, and not only could she really sing — like REALLY sing — but she was funny, and had picked a genre and style of music that was pretty ballsy (no pun-intended) considering the crowd she was out there facing. (Let’s just say she wasn’t doing any circuit house tracks.)
It didn’t matter though, the crowd loved it, and she radiated with good vibes the whole time. Well, documentary filmmaker Basil Shadid sees that too, in Jinkx. He’s been documenting her every move, since long before her days on RuPaul’s Drag Race, since before winning ‘America’s Next Drag Superstar’.
Now, Jinkx and Basil are looking for help in crowd-funding the remainder of his documentary ‘Drag Becomes Him’, which is nearing completion! Check out the trailer below, and click HERE to help out.
(Their project will only be funded if at least $20,000 is pledged by Thursday, Mar 13 2014 11:02 AM EST, so go check one of your 20 different jackets and see if you can find some loose change already!)

!! OMG, I take da phone and I put high up like dis: Art Critic JERRY SALTZ and 12 Supermodels Discuss the Selfie !!

Duckface can be high-fashion y’all! Art critic Jerry Saltz sat down with 12 supermodel including Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, and Ajak Deng recently and picked their brains on what they think makes a good selfie. An inspiring quote from The Vulture‘s ‘History Of The Selfie’:

Selfies come from all of us; they are a folk art that is already expanding the language and lexicon of photography. Selfies are a photography of modern life. Everyone has their own idea of what makes a good selfie. I like the ones that metamorphose into what might be called selfies-plus–pictures that begin to speak in unintended tongues, that carry surpluses of meaning that the maker may not have known were there. Barthes wrote that such images produce what he called “a third meaning,” which passes “from language to significance.”

That is some deep shit! What do you think makes a good selfie?

!! OMG, all hail the new Marina Abramović: Shia LaBeouf appears in ‘art exhibit’ called #IAMSORRY in L.A. (of course) !!

After pulling the terribly tacky stunt of wearing a paper bag which read “I am not famous anymore” over his head to the red carpet premiere of Lars von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac last week in Berlin — Shia LaBeouf took his form of art majeur to a gallery in L.A. this week!
In what he’s calling a “collaboration” with Finnish performance artist Nastja Säde Rönkkö and meta-modernist Luke Turner, Shia donned his paper-bag once more, and made it all that much more accessible! Yes, you common folk who want to revel in, and experience his ART — now can!
James Franco must be pissed about this! I mean, Shia is moving in dangerously close towards his territory. Save your pennies, and book your hotel now, because we can expect Shia to have his own booth at Miami next year! On the other hand, if Shia really wants to succeed in the art world, he needs to start pulling more gay shit. This paper bag thing is gonna get old fast!
Apparently the show is on from Tuesday, Feb. 11, through Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Cohen Gallery if you feel so inclined. Check out the full, play-by-play account of some BuzzFeed staffers after the jump!

!! OMG, chill vibes for all: “Dude Chilling Park” sign becomes official and permanent for East Vancouver park !!

Residences of East Vancouver’s Guelph Park have got some sweet new public art to celebrate this week, as the “DUDE CHILLING PARK” sign that appeared in their park (but was taken down) — has made its triumphant and permanent return!

The sign was created by artist Viktor Briestensky and designed to mirror the format of other city park signs. Its original location was near a Michael Dennis sculpture of a lounging figure in Guelph Park. When park staff noticed the sign last November, it was taken down. But an outpouring of support through social media for the sign led the park board to reconsider.

Though, not everyone is happy.
It wouldn’t be the year 2014 without some uptight bitches weighing in on this! Steven Bohus of RAMP, the Residents Association of Mount Pleasant, says his organization was not consulted about the sign.

“A lot of the residents feel that this isn’t a game. There is a school there, there’s a parents’ advisory committee, and I don’t think this is a joke.”

Actually, Steve — pretty sure it is a joke — a good one. Just have a seat and chill, dude! Pretty sure it’s not gonna effect the school kids. (Besides, shouldn’t RAMP be busy over at the elementary school trying to change Halloween to “black and orange day”?)

Meanwhile, Vancouver Park Board Commissioner Trevor Loke says that “more than 300 local residents were consulted with 8 per cent disapproving of the sign. 1,500 residents signed a petition in favour of the sign.” Park Board Commissioner Sarah Blyth says that the support on Twitter has been huge, and that she’s never “seen such broad support in a long time for art.”

Congrats to the residences of Mount Pleasant and welcome back, DUDE CHILLING PARK! Chill vibes for all!

!! OMG, dat chew Camilla?: Transvestite Artist Grayson Perry honoured by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace !!

“The idea that rebellion is at the margins of society – that’s false, it’s far more interesting to be mischievous from the centre.” – Grayson Perry

Turner Prize-winning artist, Grayson Perry, known for his ceramic vases and cross-dressing (those two always go hand-in-hand), was honoured by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace this past week for “30 years of hard graft” (that means 30 years of hard work in British speak, y’all!).
Perry worked a very Camilla Parker Bowles-esque look in a midnight blue dress and matching fitted jacket with a wide brimmed black-hat with some ostrich feathers for flare! Perry himself called the outfit very “Italian mother-of-the-bride”.
