!! OMG, knicker-bocker-glory: Ferruccio Laviani’s ‘Good Vibrations’ !!

Good-Vibrations-by-Ferruccio-Laviani-for-Fratelli-Boffi_1.jpg
Designed for the 2013 Furniture Exhibition, Architect Ferruccio Laviani designed this cabinet that has been CNC-cut to appear as a 3D object dragged through a photocopier or run through a VHS camcorder.
I would love to have a small chest-of-drawers like this, all squiggly and such, I just wouldn’t put my knickers in there for fear they’d come out all mangled and creased like that…ain’t nothing worse than a POKEY PAIR OF PANTIES [#_white_girl_problems]!
Here’s what the designer said about his chopped-n-screwed extravaganza eleganza:

“Good Vibrations…blends the harmony and magniloquence of the classical with the charm and allure of the contemporary [Ferruccio Laviani] questions the traditional tenets of design and furniture.”

!! OMG, brother grimm: Mykki Blanco on his Poetic Roots !!

mykki_1033413.jpg
It runs true that a gender-exploratory rapper such as Mykki Blanco would have his/her feet heeled in poetry and performance art roots.
Mykki spoke to dazed about her/his early ventures into performance art [through the Paint Unconsciousness collective], an fetal love of ‘fringe biographies’ [Bette Midler, Oscar Wilde], and his early ventures into poetry which s/he describes as “Brothers Grimm turned on it’s head”.
You can read her/his interview HERE, and see one of Mykki’s earlier backing-tracked poetry readings of ‘From the Silence of Duchamp to Noise of Boys’ HERE.

!! OMG, Viva vacuum!: Clara Cullen’s ‘Airtight’ !!

I’m familiar with Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud’s work from their 2009 piece ‘Sylphides’ [see below] where they danced inside black body-bags scored by The Spice Girl’s tear-inducing track ‘Viva Forever’.
I know! Made of genius!
Filmmaker Clara Cullen who has worked under Werner Herzog and Spike Lee, has created this short film of fragments of Bengolea and Chaignaud’s works plus some new material from their La Ménagerie residency in Paris.

FYI, they also have a piece entitled ‘Altered Natives’ Say Yes to Another Excess-Twerk’. This -I’m thinking- is a great weekend mantra!

!! OMG, sit on this: the MONOBLOC brought to life !!

bertloeschner03.jpg
The MONOBLOC chair is a bit of a garden staple that goes unnoticed, and this can give them a somewhat anthropomorphised sad and lonely appearance when left upturned and abandoned in yards and patios over the winter.
: (
Artist Bert Loescher knows that a Monobloc is not just for summer, and has explored the depth of emotions and roles of the humble garden-couch through his photographs which you can sit on after the jump:

!! OMG, you birder be-weave it!: telephone pole nests !!

1671895-slide-assimilation10.jpg
South African Photographer Dillon Marsh spent time capturing the telephone pole nests of the Social Weaver bird in the “bleached and barren” Kalahari:

“I noticed the nests seem to be in a constant state of collapse and repair. Once they get to a certain size their excessive weight causes large chunks to fall off…The birds, however, simply start adding onto the nests once again.”

Marsh also observed that locals often assisted the Social Weaver birds by installing wire frames atop some poles to create a framework for the birds to build upon.
That girl Kalahari?..Skinny as a pole, and her weave looks like a total NASTY NEST!
You can see the rest of the nest-weave look-book after the jump.
