!! OMG, he’s confused: James Franco !!

Writer/actor/total f*cking dreamboat James Franco is adding another cranberry to his already overflowing cornucopia of talents! Now he’s an artist with a real live art opening! And it’s not a bunch of still lifes and landscapes either– the dimpled beauty tells reporters that his show, titled The Dangerous Book for Boys and curated by one Amanda Heiss at the Clocktower Gallery in Manhattan, is all about male sexual confusion:

“The Dangerous Book Four Boys” addresses boyhood and the “sexual confusion” of adolescence, as Ms. Heiss put it. Short films focus on demolition, showing burning or bullet-riddled structures like a plastic toy home or a large wooden rocket (the exhibition contains originals or replicas of these). Another work explores a romantic encounter between “Star Trek” characters Spock and James T. Kirk.

“I feel like shows or films that deal with kids, they’re playing to all of these sexual feelings that you have at that age, but they don’t fully admit to it,” [Franco] said. “So I kind of try to draw that out. The implicit in those shows and books, I try to make it a little more explicit.”

Confused about your sexuality, James? Not to worry– I think I could clear up a few things for you! I even have a pair of Spock ears I can slap on. If that’s what it takes!

!! R.I.P. Will Munro !!

will-munro-portrait.jpg
After a two-year fight with brain cancer, Will Munro passed away yesterday morning at the age of 35. Will was a prolific artist, a generous friend, a pillar of Toronto queer culture, and a tireless bringer together of people.
When I came to visit Toronto from New York for the first time in 2004, Will and the community he built around his parties Peroxide and Vazaleen were my first introduction to a queer social scene that wasn’t like anything I had seen before. As close-knit as it was far-reaching, the community and its limitless affection and support made Toronto home for me when I moved here two years later.
So thank you, Will. Here’s to vegetarian dinner parties, silk-screening lessons, roller skating backwards, Spandex orifices, oyster birthday gluttony, moving vans, wedding tunes, and Moustache memories.
Will sat down for an interview recently with his good friend Leila Pourtavaf to discuss his life and work, including his final solo art show, Inside The Solar Temple of the Cosmic Leather Daddy. You can read it here.
The Facebook Group “Honoring the Heart of Will Munro” serves as an online collection of memories of Will, including articles, photos, and video.
After the jump, you can watch a short documentary directed by Matt Thomas about Will’s underwear art and the birth of Vazaleen.
(The above photo of Will was taken by Jeremy Laing at Big Primpin on May 5, 2007)

!! OMG, he designs furniture: Rick Owens !!

Fashion designer Rick Owens has been designing furniture on the side for a few years for his own gigantic pad in Paris, and now the rest of us get to see some of his designs at the first showing of his work at Salon 94 in New York.
From what we’ve seen, the pieces are stark, sharp, clean, and very heavy. The show will include a bed and matching daybed made of alabaster and marble, weighing in at a combined two tons.
