!! OMG, how thrifty: Expensive Goodwill Paintings !!

goodwill-paintings2.jpg
God damn I wish I was this lucky! Two paintings that an employee found in a Goodwill donation drop-off centre in Toronto ended up selling at an auction for $134 000 total. For some reason Goodwill is keeping all the money instead of giving it (or at least a part of it) to the employee who recognized that they were special.

!! OMG, how unflattering: Portraits !!

20090421_aitor_unflattering4.jpg
After all the Facebook photos of people looking their best, it’s refreshing to see some Unflattering Portraits by artist REVEREND AITOR. Aitor says that even the subjects themselves are into it:

I think some people are simply curious about what exactly a hideous version of themselves will look like. Other times, I feel they are testing their perceptions of themselves against what someone else sees. I’ve definitely had people point out so-called flaws that I’ve missed—little details that didn’t catch my attention, but which possibly stand out in their minds when they look in the mirror.

!! OMG, how inspirational: Us! !!

omg-pedestal.jpg
Artists Daniel Keller and Nik Kosmas (AIDS-3D) were obviously inspired by !! omg blog !! for their piece “OMG Obelisk” currently on display at the New Museum as part of the Younger Than Jesus exhibition.
Just look at the color of the letters, the black background, and the symmetry of the candles on either side! Perhaps it is an homage? I invite either artist to deny the similarity in the comments section.
