!! OMG, sounding good in a Buffalo Stance: Neneh Cherry & Afrika Baby Bam’s ‘Nina’ !!

neneh-cherry_2241001b.jpg
Neneh Cherry is communing with all kinds of motherland in this techy spoken word track with Jungle Brother Afrika Baby Bam.

Produced by Kieran ‘Four tet’ Hebden, the lyrics speak of freedom from social constraints and geographical placement. Hebden and Cherry are set to collaborate on a more substantial project which we can hopefully Buffalo Prance to in the not-so-distant future.

!! OMG they’re blue da ba dee da ba die: Chelsea FC’s Adidas campaign !!

chelsea4.jpg
Entitled ‘It’s Blue, What Else Matters’, or more accurately ‘They’re Half Naked, What Else Matters’, a bunch of lads from London soccer team Chelsea felt inspired by Christina Aguilera to get themselves big blue facial squirts [insert side-mouth wipe here], for the launch of their new team uniform by Adidas.
Featuring blue-eyed babe Juan Mata and former Liverpool player Fernando ‘titties’ Torres, you can watch the promo video and the even hotter making-of after the jump.
“da ba dee da ba die”-for!

!! OMG, WITH PULP: Elliphant’s ‘Make It Juicy’ !!

You may recognise Swedish outfit Elliphant from last years ‘Down On Life’ video, a sort of t.A.T.u. threesome go on holiday to Iceland with their horny boisterous dog.
Well seems she’s been spending ‘long time’ with that dog of hers as she’s looking a little ‘in heat’ for her new video ‘Make It Juicy’. It doesn’t show any noodie bits but I would still say it’s not safe for Barbara -the cleaning lady at the office- to peak at over your shoulder whilst she’s dust busting the corner of your cubicle.
I, myself, often adopt a Jamaican lilt and tell people this; I say it to the girl at the coffee shop in the morning, I say it to the guy who does security at the automatic sliding doors at Walmart, hell, I even say it to the grey-haired lady who works at the fishmongers down the road…”300 grams of steelhead trout AAND MAAAKE EET JOOOOSYY”…she always does, it’s always gushing by the time I get that fish head home.

!! OMG, the vision of Divinity: Jeffrey Schwarz interview !!

Jeffrey Schwarz has directed over 100 films; documentaries about movies, films on films, covering the making as such classics as ‘Footloose’ [this amounts to several films, obsessed much?!], ‘Bewitched’ and ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’.
His in-depth documentary on the queen of all queens, Divine, premiered this year at SXSW and features previously unseen photos and videos provided by Divine’s mother Frances Milstead who was still alive when Jeffrey was collecting together his material for what he describes as “the ultimate ‘it gets better’ story”.
Schwarz sat down with Afterelton to discuss his dream of one day making a Divine Biopic, his search for film-funding sugar-daddies or “donor angels”, and remembering that John [Waters] and Divine, were creating “movies for gay people who didn’t get along with other gay people”:

“Today’s queers need to remember people like Divine and the people on the fringes who made it easier for the rest of us.”

True dat!
You can read the whole interview HERE [I promise only a single mention of canine excrement] and you can browse the North American film screening deets, after the jump.

!! OMG, chin WANGing: Vogue Voices with Alexander Wang !!

Vogue Voices is a new series that delves into the stories, business ideas and aspirations of fashion designers.
First up is New York based Alexander Wang, who we featured in conversation with NYC rapper A$AP Rocky just last weekypoo.
Wang spoke to vogue of this very importance of music and musicians in his work, having recently explored the concept of a musical encore style runway show. He also discussed the importance of “elevating the everyday”, most exemplified by his T offshoot line which looks to make his brand more inclusive and affordable in order that he made derive the most joy from his work; seeing it on women, not just on the showroom floor.
Since Anna Wintour took the helm at American Vogue, I believe the magazine has lost a lot of the slower-paced sumptuousness which it once held, in favour of more gaudy advertisements, more pages with less information and romanticism between it’s covers; reading sometimes more like Heat Magazine than the larger glossier spreads of magazine like -say- Purple or W.
So it’s nice to see that they’ve taken a good few minutes of relatively candid and unedited video of Wang speaking of the importance of organic fluidity in the creative process, oh, and looking back on the one embarrassing aspect of his very first RTW collection…oops!
