!! OMG, times a’changing: Vogue sets age minimum for models !!

If you’re a modelesque 15-year-old girl, then SORRY, VOGUE DOESN’T WANT YOU. The fashion mag announced today that from the June issues forward, no edition of Vogue — including all 19 international editions — will work with any model under the age of 16. But the editors aren’t stopping there. The statement also binds fashion’s elite to a six-point commitment to promoting healthy body image:

1. We will not knowingly work with models under the age of 16 or who appear to have an eating disorder. We will work with models who, in our view, are healthy and help to promote a healthy body image.

2. We will ask agents not to knowingly send us underage girls and casting directors to check IDs when casting shoots, shows and campaigns.

3. We will help to structure mentoring programs where more mature models are able to give advice and guidance to younger girls, and we will help to raise industry-wide awareness through education, as has been integral to the Council of Fashion Designers of America Health Initiative.

4. We will encourage producers to create healthy backstage working conditions, including healthy food options and a respect for privacy. We will encourage casting agents not to keep models unreasonably late.

5. We encourage designers to consider the consequences of unrealistically small sample sizes of their clothing, which limits the range of women who can be photographed in their clothes, and encourages the use of extremely thin models.

6. We will be ambassadors for the message of healthy body image.

!! OMG, he wants to play with your feet: The Gareth Thomas shoe !!

1120919_BK58_medium.jpg
Gareth Thomas fans will obviously be turning up by the throng-load to see the out rugby star’s biopic — which apparently will still star Mickey Rourke and not Tom Hardy — but until that day comes, they’ll have to settle for wearing the athlete’s shoes instead. Christian Louboutin named this red-soled interpretation of a classic wing tipped shoe after his beefy Welsh friend, even recently sporting the “Gareth” at the opening of a London Design Museum exhibition celebrating his lifetime of work. And who says fashion and sports have nothing in common?

!! OMG, with pursed lips: Karl Lagerfeld apologizes to Adele !!

How does Karl Lagerfeld apologize? By showering you with gifts — glorious, expensive Chanel gifts. According to The Sun, the designer felt so bad about his Adele-is-a-fatty comments that he instructed his peons to send the singer a bouquet of Chanel bags. And smart thinking, too, since she collects designer handbags. I, for one, do not, but I’d be happy to let Karl insult me if it means swaaaaag.

!! OMG, now you can look like him, too: Marc Jacobs is launching a makeup line !!

marc-jacobs-makeup.jpg
Marc Jacobs hears the lucrative call of a cosmetics line calling, and he’s ready to answer. “The idea of choosing a color for your lip, or an eyeliner — it’s just such a delight,” the designer told WWD. “The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy. We currently are working on defining what Marc Jacobs cosmetics will be, what they’ll say, what makes them distinctive. I think that will take some time, but the first meeting was good.” Jacobs will be partnering with Sephora to develop the line, although he’s only just had his first meeting, so all you painted ladies will just have to wait.

!! OMG, the inspiration for YSL’s spring 2012 look: ‘Nighty Night’ !!

nighty-night-ysl.jpg
It appears that Yves Saint Laurent is still reeling from its split with creative director Stefano Pilati and has sought beauty advice from Jill Tyrell, the psychotic hairdresser played by Julia Davis on British comedy series Nighty Night.
How else to explain the medieval fringe and drawn-on eyebrows that Italian model Mariacarla Boscono is sporting in the French fashion house’s spring 2012 campaign? As Jill explained to her client Mrs. Horner in episode one of season one: “I think what’s happened, OK, is that divorce has brought your eyebrows down, and that has largened up your forehead.”
(Thanks to make-up mavericks Rob and Margot for the tip!)
