When news broke last fall that Pedro Almodóvar and actor Antonio Banderas were making their 10th film together, the Spanish director claimed it would be his “harshest” film to date. The 30-second teaser for The Skin I Live In suggests he’s delivering on that promise. Here’s the synopsis, taken from the film’s official Facebook page:

After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed a further three things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. Scruples were never a problem. Marilia, the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice. And as for the human guinea pig…
Movie critics everywhere are already dreaming up not-so-imaginative “skin flick” headline puns in anticipation of the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this week. The Skin I Live In is due for a North American release in November via Sony Pictures Classics.
