!! OMG, trip out on her: MOKO !!

moko_mizwnlTZQD1qfvyuro1_1280.jpg
Moko reminds me why, as a kid I used to wish so hard to be a black woman with soul when I grew up…[circa Shara Nelson in Massive Attack’s Unfinished Sympathy] thanks also to Tia, Tamera and Moesha!
Moko definitely has that trip-hop sound down and her tracks open up to give way to her soul wooooaaahhs and whateverelse comes out her face hole in the mean-time.
You can listen to her 2 new tracks, the trip-hoppy ‘Freeze’ and her two-step-garage number ‘Reach High’, and then skip to the jump where you can see her minimal back-lit video for ‘Summon The Strength’ from a few weeks back.
Right, I’m off to book my FULL-BODY-BROWN-SKIN-GRAFT and VOCAL TRAINING!

!! OMG, Kim Ann Foxman remixes The xx !!

Last year when I interviewed Oliver Sim of The xx for Toronto alt-weekly NOW Magazine, he revealed that Hercules and Love Affair’s cover of “Shelter” helped shove the brooding British trio ever-so-gently toward the dance floor.
“It definitely inspired us,” he said. “Something I really enjoy in music is that juxtaposition that happens in disco a lot between really heartbreaking songs that you can dance to and then take home, listen to again and realize they’re kind of sad. It was nice to realize that songs can exist in two different places. I think that’s something they did in that cover, which is cool.”
Now, the singer of said “Shelter” cover, Kim Ann Foxman, has taken “Sunset” – one of the dancier tunes off The xx’s Coexist album – and remixed it into an eerie deep house track suitable for either givin ‘er on the floor or moping around the house.

!! OMG, watch The Holiday Crowd’s “Sick Days” video !!

Holiday Crowd.JPG
We were about to write something about how the music of indie pop group The Holiday Crowd is the perfect soundtrack for those grey, melancholy days when all we want to do is sit inside and scroll endlessly through Grindr while pretending to read a book.
However, the top YouTube commenter on the band’s latest video “Sick Days” beat us to it, calling it a “strangely unique” video “that makes me ponder about the meaning of my existence. And that is mainly thanks to the deep, stylish and comforting vintage atmosphere that permeates the flow and fully embraces the music in a perfect bond between melancholy and hope.”
Agreed.
The band is about to embark on a European tour in support of the release of their debut LP Over the Bluffs via Manimal Vinyl. Watch the “Sick Days” vid below and check out tour dates after the jump.

!! OMG, inexcusable table manners: Lapalux’ ‘Without You’ !!

lapalux.jpg
I popped this video after the jump, not because there’s a shower scene with a lady with her lumps out deep-throat-fisting a gentleman in a gimp suit, and not because a LEOPARD-PRINT-TRANNY beats the crap out of gimpy-pants with her handbag in an alleyway…but simply because Mr Gimp licks his plate clean at the dinner table!
This is unforgivably appalling bad manners at any dinner table, not least at your meet-the-parents dinner table. That is definite NSFW table manners

!! OMG, Queen Bee: Fear Of Men’s ‘Seer’ !!

Bee-lover Fear of Men’s new single is entitled ‘Seer’ hence the lyrics “you say you are a seer”…so I’m like “what the shite is a seer?” So i googly goggle ‘seer’…and Wiki gives me options; the first being “A clairvoyant, prophet, oracle, or diviner”, the next reads as “THE Seer (Charmed), a fictional character on the television series Charmed“!
So I’m now thinking, oh Fear of Men, you’re just a totally massive Charmed fan aren’t you? You too would love to be one of the CHARMED KARDASHIAN WITCH-SISTERS with combined powers that could defeat evil but no dress-sense whatsoever?! Me too !
I love her voice, and I’m totally hearing The Cranberries’ hill-yelling lilt and harmonies “yaaaeeehaaayaaaaarrrrrr”. So basically Charmed and The Cranberries…you can’t top a pop-culture pairing like that…except by adding killer bees of course.
