!! OMG, back to the start: Gotye creates epic ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ fan vid remix !!

“Reluctant as I am to add to the mountain of interpretations of Somebody That I Used To Know seemingly taking over their own area of the internet, I couldn’t resist the massive remixability that such a large, varied yet connected bundle of source material offered… Thank you to everyone who has responded to Somebody That I Used To Know via YouTube. It’s truly amazing!

!! OMG, Kate Bush has re-recorded “Running Up That Hill” !!

RUTH cover.jpg
With appearances by the Spice Girls, Annie Lennox, George Michael and Pet Shop Boys, yesterday’s closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics was probably the gayest television extravaganza we’re likely to see on basic cable all year. To top it off, the ceremony’s musical trip through recent British pop music history included a massive dance routine to a re-recorded ‘remix’ of Kate Bush‘s seminal ’80s hit “Running Up That Hill” (that, naturally, was edited out of the U.S. broadcast).
The 2012 version of “Running” sounds more like a subtle re-working than a remix and is available via Kate Bush’s website. Here is what she had to say about the new version: “I hope you all enjoyed the remix of ‘Running Up That Hill’ this evening at the Olympics Closing Ceremony. They certainly put on a brilliant show.”
Have a listen to it via Disco Naïveté.

!! OMG, Robyn and Scissor Sisters to cover Arthur Russell !!

Arthur Russell comp.jpg
Robyn, Scissor Sisters, Owen Pallett, Nico Muhly, Hot Chip and Cut Copy are among the acts lined-up for a tribute album to the composer Arthur Russell. Entitled This Is How We Walk On The Moon, the collection is being produced by Red Hot (which previously put out the Dark Was The Night comp) in association with Pitchfork and will cover all areas of Russell’s expansive repertoire, from disco and experimental dance to singer-songwriter pop and classical cello compositions. Proceeds will go toward Red Hot’s fight against HIV/AIDS.
The project is being crowd-funded through a Kickstarter campaign. Check out the This Is How We Walk On The Moon Kickstarter video below:
