!! OMG, Perfume Genius announces new album: ‘Put Your Back N 2 It’ !!

PG-put_your_back_n2_it.jpg
Seattle singer-songwriter Perfume Genius, a.k.a. Mike Hadreas, revealed today that he’ll release his second LP, Put Your Back N 2 It, on Feb. 21 via Matador Records.
While his first album was an achingly personal account of his inner demons, he’s describing this one as more universal in scope, addressing themes such as intimacy, power, family, secrecy and, as the title suggests, boning. Judging from the track “All Waters” (available to download below), Hadreas sounds a lot more polished now than he did on his lo-fi bedroom debut, Learning, which was one of our favorite albums of 2010.

Put Your Back N 2 It track listing:
1. Awol Marine
2. Normal Song
3. No Tear
4. 17
5. Take Me Home
6. Dirge
7. Dark Parts
8. All Waters
9. Hood
10. Put Your Back N2 It
11. Floating Spit
12. Sister Song

!! OMG, download a new Hunx song: “Always Forever” !!

When we interviewed Hunx and His Punx man Seth Bogart a while back he told us he had several projects in the works and now it appears one of them will come to fruition early in the New Year. Yesterday Seth’s label Hardly Art announced the release of Hairdresser Blues, a solo album as Hunx, on Feb. 28, 2012.
According to a press release, this collection of songs promises to showcase a darker side of Seth’s songwriting compared with Hunx and His Punx. “A lot of this album deals with topics I don’t usually write about. I wasn’t concerned with entertaining people with these songs. I just wanted to get them out of me,” he said. “Most of these songs were written late at night in my bedroom when I was going through really dark periods. Sometimes I wouldn’t even remember writing the songs and would just find the demos days later.”

!! OMG, Atlas Sound announces East Coast tour dates !!

Indie impresario and Deerhunter main man Bradford Cox is taking his croon-y Atlas Sound project on the road this month for a short U.S. tour in support of his excellent third album, Parallax. When the record came out a month ago, Cox – who identifies as asexual, queer or single or something like that – gave an interesting interview to Rolling Stone in which he bemoaned the serious lack of “queerness, homo-eroticism and boyhood” in rock n’ roll. To wit:

The last time I saw you play live, it was a Deerhunter show at Webster Hall, and you were dressed up in the teen idol look that you have on the cover of Parallax. What inspired this look?
It’s nothing more than a junk-shop version, a thrift store version of Ricky Nelson or something, but emaciated. It’s nothing new. I’d been really yearning for there to be some icons in music, in the kind of music I’m interested in lately, because it’s f*cking dismal, what’s going on right now.
In terms of charismatic figures?
Hetero-centric, boring, scruffy 20 year-olds are ruining the f*cking face of rock and roll, you know? There are no Patti Smiths or Joey Ramones, or Lou Reeds, even. Well, but Lou Reed is f*cking playing with Metallica, whatever. There needs to be some vital something, and I mean, I’d like to try to be that, if possible, if I may be so bold.

You may. And we encourage those of you in the below listed cities to aide him in his quest:
Atlas Sound 2011/12 tour dates:
Dec. 14 – Durham, NC @ Motorco
Dec. 15 – Richmond, VA @ The National
Dec. 16 – Philadelphia, PA @ First Unitarian Church Sanctuary
Dec. 17 – Brooklyn, NY @ Bell House
Dec. 18- New York, NY @ Bowery Ballroom
Dec. 20 – Washington, DC @ Black Cat
Feb. 19 – Tokyo, Japan @ Ebisu Garden Hall
