!! OMG, (witchy) new band alert: Austra !!

austra.jpg
Perhaps it’s the gloomy winter weather. Or perhaps it’s because every time turn on the radio it’s like I’m suddenly trapped in self-help pop hell, but I’m totally feeling the visceral industrial pull of Austra’s new single, “Beat & The Pulse”.
What is Austra? It’s a new band led by Katie Stelmanis, a classically-trained Canadian rock musician with an operatic voice who may or may not be shawl-twirling witchdom’s heir apparent (ie. she sounds a bit goth). The band recently signed to Domino Records and is preparing to release their debut album, Feel It Break, on April 17. In the meantime, have a listen to the “Beat & The Pluse” single and if you like what you hear, watch its NSFW video after the jump.

!! OMG, new Erykah Badu vid: “Gone Baby, Don’t Be Long” !!

The last time we brought you news from the world of Erykah Badu, she was rocking a blonde faux-hawk and shaking down a payday loan center with Rick Ross. Now, our soul hero is coasting through the Planet of the Ankhs in the funkadelic video for her Paul McCartney-sampling(!) jam “Gone Baby, Don’t Be Long”, a highlight from last year’s New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh album.
In other Badu news, the singer, who DJs under the alias DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown, has been inducted to the worldwide DJ coalition The Core DJs. “I am honored and do not take it for granted,” she tweeted. “B-girl for life. Head wrapped and strapped.” Check out a photo of her intergalactic set-up during a Super Bowl weekend gig in Dallas via Rap-Up.com.

!! OMG, he fell from hipster heaven: Graffiti 6’s Jamie Scott !!

Graffiti 6 front-man Jamie Scott is, well, he’s just really disgustingly gorgeous. But looks aside, this Brit’s also a talented singer-songwriter and his band — a collaboration with producer Tommy D — creates heartfelt, guitar-based songs, like this title track from their debut album, Colours. For an interview with Jamie talking about his new success and coming to America for the first time, go to Out.com.
