!! OMG, It’s Basically Free: New Antony and the Johnsons single !!

Faggy-bedroom popsters Antony and the Johnsons have a new EP called Swanlights coming out, and they’re letting people download the new song, Thank You For Your Love, for the very cheap price of just your e-mail address. Which, honestly, selling e-mail addresses to spammers is probably one good way to survive in the music industry these days! (I’m sure the genteel and sensitive Antony is not doing that, though.)
And how’s the song? If you ask me, this song sounds more like an Antony and the Johnsons parody than anything else, but you know. It’s free!

!! OMG, SSION movie ‘BOY’ to screen in Toronto !!

BOY still 7.jpg
Forget TIFF, it’s all about SSION. The Midwestern glam punk rockers are bringing their debut full-length musical feature BOY to Toronto on August 28. Directed by band mastermind/pop artist Cody Critcheloe, the film combines nine music videos into an hour-long D.I.Y. narrative about teenage love, longing and rock n’ roll idolatry. The film premiered in SSION’s hometown Kansas City last year and has been touring the globe ever since. Following the screening at Mercer Union, Cody will perform at the after party at Hotnuts. Full details via Facebook. Check out the trailer for BOY below:

!! OMG, Jónsi releases new vid, announces US tour !!

Icelandic rock star Jónsi is bringing his unique brand of whimsical thrash pop back to American shores this fall in support of his debut solo project Go. For a taste of what to expect from the Sigur Ros front man’s live experience, check out his recently-released video “Animal Arithmetic”, which emphasizes the singer’s penchant for percussive insanity as well his deep love of confetti through a series of close-up camera shots.
Unfortunately we missed Jónsi’s first go-around back in the spring, but apparently it won rave reviews because he’s assembled several choice pull-quotes for the official tour trailer (below). Full list of dates after the jump!

!! OMG, Holy Holy Holy: Katy Perry and Jesus Play Tongue Twister !!

Bing bong bong bing wing wong bong! No, it’s not Chinese, you racist: it’s Tongues, the official language of Mr. Jesus Christ himself. And while most godless Hollywood types are more acquainted with a tongue up the butt than the ancient tongue of The Holy Spirit, untouched flower/God Warrior Katy “I Kissed a Girl” Perry reveals in a recent interview that she knows Jesus’s secret language.

“Speaking in tongues is as normal to me as ‘Pass the salt.’ It’s a secret, direct prayer language to God.”

Unfortunately, I’ve gone my entire life thinking God spoke Pig Latin! No wonder I still haven’t been blessed with the Orsche-pay Arrera-cay I’ve been praying for all these years.

!! OMG, photos: Robyn live in Toronto !!

_MG_2255.jpg
Dressed in high-waisted flower-print pants, a black bra top and puffy black jacket, platinum blonde pop star Robyn seemed to channel Soul Train-era Rosie Perez during her show at Toronto’s Molson Canadian Amphitheatre last Friday night.
Though the venue was only a third full (likely due to the head-scratching bill that also included maudlin rockers Keane and Travis front man Fran Healey) the audience roared like a full house the moment the Swedish singer strutted out on stage around 8pm.
Backed by a four-piece band that included two drummers, Robyn opened with the robo-pop-rap track “Fembot” and “Cry When You Get Older”, both off her recent album Body Talk Pt. 1. She kept the party going with a set that exclusively favored dance-oriented material like “Cobrastyle”, “Konichiwa Bitches”, “Dancing On My Own” and Royksopp collab “The Girl and the Robot”. The clubby mood gave Robyn a chance to demonstrate her surprisingly adroit dancehall dry humping, running man boxercise and penchant for suggestive pelvic thrusting and gyrating. But the pièce de résistance came when she slowly peeled a banana and ate it during the song “Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do”.
Robyn is still considered an outsider pop act in North America, but her big melodies and on-stage swagger are worthy of an arena-sized audience — or Rosie Perez. Intrepid photographer James Lourenco was front and center to capture all of Robyn’s facial contortions. Check the photos after the jump!
