!! OMG, a must-watch DVD: ‘Inspired: The Voices Against Prop 8’ !!

“Inspired: The Voices Against Prop 8” has been generating a lot of buzz at film festivals across the country during the past year, and now, lucky us, the documentary chronicling California’s struggle with marriage equality is available for pre-order on Amazon, as well as iTunes and Google Play. (You have an extra $24.99 laying around, right?) This clip from the film depicts a protest rally that took place just four days after the passing of Prop 8, drawing an unprecedented 12,000 people into the streets of Silver Lake in Los Angeles. If your parents or neighbors need reminding of our continuing fight for the right to marry, just feed their address to Amazon and consider it an early holiday present.

!! OMG, “going to happen”: Lady Gaga on gay marriage !!

Lady-Gaga-for-Vogue-September-2012-Issue-lady-gaga-31762169-500-572.png

“I think that gay marriage is going to happen. It must. We are not actually equal — humanity — if we are not allowed to freely love one another… What the Pope thinks of being gay does not matter to the world. It matters to the people who like the Pope and follow the Pope… It is not a reflection of all religious people.”

!! OMG, happy one year anniversary: President Obama on the repeal of DADT !!

091612-dadt-repeal-500.JPG

“A year ago today, we upheld the fundamental American values of fairness and equality by finally and formally repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ Gay and lesbian Americans now no longer need to hide who they love in order to serve the country they love. It is a testament to the professionalism of our men and women in uniform that this change was implemented in an orderly manner, preserving unit cohesion, recruitment, retention and military effectiveness. As Commander in Chief, I’ve seen that our national security has been strengthened because we are no longer denied the skills and talents of those patriotic Americans who happen to be gay or lesbian. The ability of service members to be open and honest about their families and the people they love honors the integrity of the individuals who serve, strengthens the institutions they serve, and is one of the many reasons why our military remains the finest in the world.”

— POTS Barack Obama on the one-year anniversary of the end to “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the U.S. military’s policy of discrimination against gay and lesbian service members

!! OMG, “nothing worse”: Rupert Everett doesn’t like gay dads !!

“I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads. Some people might not agree with that. Fine! That’s just my opinion. I’m not speaking on behalf of the gay community. In fact, I don’t feel like I’m part of any ‘community’. The only community I belong to is humanity and we’ve got too many children on the planet, so it’s good not to have more.”

!! OMG, “my family is just as real as yours:” Zach Wahls’ DNC speech !!

Zach Wahls — the Iowan who made his two mothers proud in January 2011 by addressing a public hearing against a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage — is going to make someone a very good husband someday. Any of the eligible bachelorettes watching last night as he delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention certainly agree.
