christeeneOMG.jpg

With Toronto Pride already in full swing, we’re thrilled to bring you a special Q&A between singer/songwriter/performance artist/force of nature CHRISTEENE and diva duo Produzentin (below left) and Mary Messhausen (below right), proprietresses of the iconic queer party Hotnuts, where CHRISTEENE’s summer tour will kick off tomorrow night!

If you don’t already know CHRISTEENE:

CHRISTEENE is a sexually infused sewer of live rap and vile shamelessness, capable of adapting amazingly well to all styles of music. It is noted that CHRISTEENE commands a stage presence of furious intensity accompanied by a strict regiment of hardcore dance and destructive choreography.

Now onto the “INNERVIEW”…

!! OMG, a Q&A with Rye Rye !!

Rye Rye.jpg
After several delays, Baltimore club MC and M.I.A. protégé Rye Rye finally released her debut album Go! Pop! Bang! this week. The record places a big emphasis on that grimy, rapid-fire Bmore-style bass sound best exemplified by her breakthrough hit “Shake It To The Ground,” but the 21-year-old also expands into new musical territory, tackling straight-up hip-hop beats courtesy of producers Bangladesh and Pharrell Williams and going all Top 40 on “DNA,” a glittering dance-pop anthem produced by RedOne.

In conversation, Rye Rye is as fast and animated a talker as she is a rapper. We recently rang her up in Los Angeles to chat about the evolution of her sound, her place in the hip-hop world, repping Baltimore and working with M.I.A. Read the Q&A after the jump!

!! OMG, another Q&A with Perfume Genius !!

perfume genius 3.jpg
It’s been just over a year since we last spoke with Perfume Genius, a.k.a. singer-songwriter Mike Hadreas, about his bedroom-recorded breakthrough album, Learning.

Since then, the Seattle-based piano man has recorded a strikingly beautiful second album called Put Your Back N 2 It in a ‘proper’ studio for respected indie label Matador, co-starred in a music video with gay porn star Arpad Miklos, ignited a minor controversy with a too-hot-for-YouTube ad and earned a rep as a fearless and talented performer that’s willing to go there — in song and occasionally in interviews — on a number of difficult-to-broach topics.

We recently reconvened with Mike on the phone to chat about his new album, his insecurities and his amateur porn interests, as well as bait him into one of those super gay arguments that pits Beyoncé against another female pop star. Read the Q&A after the jump!

!! OMG, a Q&A with Vince Clarke of Erasure !!

erasure1.jpg

A little while ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Vince Clarke, the pop music master behind Depeche Mode’s first album, Yazoo, The Assembly and of course, Erasure, the synth pop duo he formed with singer Andy Bell in 1985.

On October 11th, they will release their 14th studio album, Tomorrow’s World, which expands their streamlined, hooky romantic pop sound into something more epic in scope. We chatted to Clarke about entrusting Erasure’s sound to 25-year-old producer Frankmusik, the secret to their longevity and his favorite pop star at the moment. Read the Q&A after the jump!

!! OMG, a Q&A with Seth Bogart of Hunx and His Punx !!

Hunx band.JPG

Readers that occasionally indulge in some of the non-naked or non-cat content on this website might recall that we declared the song “Can A Man Hear Me” by H.U.N.X. the second gayest song of 2010. If we were the gay version of Q Magazine, we’d probably also list it as The Fifth Gayest Song Of The Decade, The Third Gayest Song Of All Time By A Male Solo Artist Or Pop Duo and The Gayest Song Not Sung By RuPaul, Patti LaBelle or Gwyneth Paltrow On An Award Show Broadcast Between February, 1987 And April, 2011.

The voice behind that song (and many others) is the multi-talented Seth Bogart, a soon-to-be-Los Angeles-based musician, punk rock pin-up boy and hairdresser on fire extraordinaire. He’s also the main man in the band Hunx and His Punx, which just released the enjoyable girl group throwback-sounding record Too Young To Be In Love on the indie imprint Hardly Art.

Readers of the fully-naked content of this website may also remember his cameo in Girls’ NSFW “Lust For Life” music video.

This week, Hunx and His Punx embark on a west coast tour and so we decided this was an opportune time to ring Seth in San Francisco to ask him for gay travel advice, chat about his various musical and TV projects and his near-misses with Courtney Love. Read the full Q&A after the jump!
