!! OMG, hide your dealers, hide your Drano: Infamous ‘club kid’ turned murderer Michael Alig could soon be free !!

tumblr_maat3j9X461rvvuqio1_500.gif
Michael Alig, the man who rose to fame as a well-known promoter/club kid in the 90’s by throwing wild parties at places like the Limelight, is in the chokey and currently serving 10-20 years for the murder of his drug dealer Andre “Angel” Melendez back in 1996. The 2003 film Party Monster starring Macauley Culkin as Alig, chronicled Alig‘s rise and fall, and he has since garnered a younger cult following on places like Tumblr around his twisted ‘nightlife-legacy’.
However — if PageSix has got it right, it may happen that Michael could be released from jail very soon:

“I go to my next hearing in a week . . . wish me luck,” Alig wrote in a holiday card to a pal last month. “If they release me I’d be home in January! I get a response in about 20 days . . . can’t wait to see everyone again,” he added.

Oh shiiit! That gives us, like, a one-day window before February hits! If Alig does get out of the chokey, we think he’s gonna be most pisssed about the fact that New York no longer has a nightlife!

!! OMG, losing you for good?: Solange VS Dev Hynes BEEF escalating !!

tumblr_mggti8ZbTL1rhckgdo1_1280.jpg
In terms of the “Twitter beef spectrum”, this is probably the most un-scary of them yet: It looks like there may be big trouble in little Chinatown for the folks behind Losing You, the song you love to drunkenly sing while pointing into your friend’s face at last call!
Dev Hynes of Blood Orange fame is responsible for producing Solange‘s 2012 anthem, which helped to launch Knowles out from being considered just Beyonce‘s kid sister, into a full-blown pop presence. Recently though, there’s been a rift between the two, mainly concerning giving credit where credit is due. Solange sent out a string of tweets back in April about the writing of her album:

Y’all got it all the way wrong. Ive been writing and producing my own voice since 02, nigga … I find it very disappointing when I am presented as the ‘face’ of my music, or a ‘vocal muse’ when I write or co-write every f*cking song … Sexism in the industry ain’t nothing new.

Dev spoke to The FADER recently, and had a couple of things to say about the uneasiness with Solange:

The exact circumstances surrounding their falling out are unclear–and the two still share a manager. Hynes says they never resolved the issue. “We’ve spoken but I don’t know where it’s at,” he says. Hynes says he wrote a good portion of the album entirely himself, especially the songs “Losing You” and “Bad Girls,” which he wrote and recorded versions of before he even knew Solange, with Solange adding mostly structural and vocal changes throughout. But it’s difficult to quantify exactly who contributed what. Within a couple of months, though, Hynes had quit the tour before it was over and returned to New York, and he wasn’t asked to work with Solange on her next album.

Last night, Dev responded to some cryptic tweets that Solange has been posting, which many conveyed as a response to Dev’s recent FADER interview. Find them below. What do you think about the latest Twitter beef? Are you sad that Hynes and Knowles won’t be collabo-ing again anytime soon?

!! OMG, peace, love, unity, respect: Kandi Ravers share their mantra (and other things) !!

“We traded kandi, and then I touched his penis” is our new mantra this week thanks to this video of a bunch of mangled kandi ravers at New York’s Electric Zoo Festival.
That quote is like a refreshing spritz of Evian spray on your face, or maybe even some Vick’s Vapor Rub around your nostrils. Pure poetry in motion.

!! OMG, isn’t your jumper just: DIVINE! James Long sweaters from Autumn/Winter 2013 Collection !!

dv1.jpg
A few months back I had the opportunity to catch I Am Divine, a documentary which tells the story of the life of Harris Glen Milstead AKA John Waters‘ muse, Divine. The theatre was packed, the film was great, and it painted the icon of bad taste as a very kind and loving man, which only furthered my interest in his legacy.
So, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that UK designer James Long recently paid tribute to the iconic actor in his Fall/Winter 2013 collection. The hand-knitted sweaters can be purchased for just pennies over at Browns for anywhere from £665-£725 per piece. (Personally, I’d say it’s worth it. Especially if you happen to be dating a rich US senator, or you’re on that show the A-List. Dallas or New York. If you’re reading this — you should probably just buy two.)
Check out some additional runway shots of the sweaters along with many more looks from JamesF/W 2013 show after the jump.

!! OMG, it’s AirBn-Basquiat: Jean-Michel Basquiat’s former Soho loft on AirBnB for $650 a night !!

2013-08-12-basquiatairbnb1.jpeg
I’ve been addicted to cruising AirBnb lately. There are so many dope, unbelievable places all over the planet to stay on there. Whoever’s in charge of their site design does a great job of compartmentalizing sections to get lost in. One minute I’m looking at igloos in Innsbruck or private islands in Brazil, and the next haunted castles in Australia.
Adding to that list of unique places to rent via the site is the former Soho loft of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat who died in 1988.
Don’t get the wrong impression though. This isn’t a crash pad for a junkie anymore. The new owner clearly states:

“You MUST be very peaceful people. This is NOT a ‘party loft’ situation. You MUST be able to walk up 4 flights of stairs. No smoking.”

Check out more pics and the listing for Basquiat‘s former digs after the jump.
