!! OMG, free documentary: Matt Wolf’s “I Remember” on writer/artist Joe Brainard !!

Screen Shot 2013-09-30 at 11.28.38 AM.png
Last year, New York-based filmmaker Matt Wolf made a beautiful documentary about American artist, and New York School writer, Joe Brainard.
I REMEMBER‘ is based on Brainard’s memoirs and you can stream it for free this week over on Mousse Magazine’s VDROME. (There’s also an interview with Matt about the film.) Some more info from VDROME:

I Remember is a kind of biography of the New York School writer and artist Joe Brainard, who died of Aids in 1994 at the age of 53. I say kind of because it’s also a visualization or vivification of his wonderful book I Remember, which is in itself a difficult to categorize work – an autobiography, let’s say, by way of intensely sensual fragments of memory.
Using found footage and archival audio and visual materials to construct his narrative Matt Wolf creates a memento-like reenactment of Joe Brainard’s poem “I Remember”. Composed by an ongoing flux of recollections and images, the film maintains the fast cadency of the Brainard’s text while weaving a touching biographical account of the American artist and writer.

!! OMG, YASS!: The complete Lifetime ‘HOUSE OF VERSACE’ Trailer has arrived !!

Screen Shot 2013-09-27 at 2.00.51 AM.png
The complete Lifetime trailer for House Of Versace starring Gina Gershon as Donatella Versace is out and it’s giving me the spine tingles.
We see Donatella speaking down to some basic bitches in a park, throwing herself into a photoshoot with a fake Naomi Campbell and other familiar supermodels, we see her indulging in some bumps on nightclub dancefloor, having a smoke in a parkade, all to the tune of Kanye West talking about how he is God. What more could we want??
House Of Versace is premieres on Lifteime, October 5th! Check out the full trailer after the jump.

!! OMG, u betta werk, Marie: Is Marie Osmond’s Hallmark show the gayest show on television? !!

Screen Shot 2013-09-23 at 5.02.15 PM.png
Whoever is doing the bookings for Marie Osmond‘s Hallmark show ‘Marie’ must understand that the gays from her generation are likely the ones tuning in (or are the ones that even watch the Hallmark channel for that matter, besides maybe your Nana).
Whether Marie is conscious of this or not, — the list of her recent guests is gayer than a John Travolta Christmas album: LaToya Jackson, Margaret Cho, Richard Simmons, Ashanti, “Pam” from True Blood, Shannon Elizabeth, Tabatha Coffey, Andy Dick, Tia and Tamera Mowry, Hugh Jackman, and the list goes on. Her furniture is also some opulent, Pottery Barn-meets-orchid-greenhouse glamour!
Check out Marie kickin’ back and bro-ing down with Toy Toy HERE! Marie calls LaToya “her sister”, and LaToya‘s laugh is giving me Bride of Chucky vibes — that’s a good thing!

!! OMG, someone call Julie Cooper’s drunk ass: The O.C. gets a Turkish remake! !!

medcezir-2s-1.jpg
Back in 2005, I spent a whole summer sitting in my friend’s dorm room watching the first and second seasons of The O.C. It was addictive then, and now teens over in Turkey are about to get their first taste!
Variety reports that “the Fox youth drama that ran from 2003-2007, has been adapted for the first time by another country through Turkey’s Star TV.”Check out the trailer for Med Cezir the new, Turkish O.C. after the jump.
Which O.C. character are you most excited to see brought back to life? Do you think anyone in Turkey could ever possibly fill Julie Cooper’s 8 inch heels? Who is Turkey’s new Mischa Barton?

!! OMG, move over Marina: Remember when The Joker was a Contemporary Artist? !!

joker-batman-art.gif
Lately, it seems that every face in the music game has been trying to break into the art world by collaborating with artist Marina Abramović, and every Marina Abramović in the art game has been trying to collaborate with… well, you get the point.
But before our Serbian art guru was punking popstars & hip-hop bitches by selling them her presence, before Banksy was evading cops around the world, and before Rothkos were being defaced in broad-daylight, there was someone else who was bringing the jokes. It was THE JOKER.
47 years ago, “Pop Goes The Joker,” aired on the original Batman series starring Adam West and Cesar Romero, and the similarities between some of the shit going down today are uncanny! From HyperAlleric:

The episode depicts Gotham’s “art world” and opens with a scene in which the Joker enters a rather proper art gallery and sprays paint all over a series of priceless works, which are later praised as an act of artistic genius (which only goes to show even Yellowism is not original).
Afterwards, the Joker enters an art contest and is pitted against artists with somewhat familiar names, including Pablo Pincus, Jackson Potluck, Leonardo Davinski, and Vincent van Goache. After winning the contest by applying a single dot of purple paint onto a canvas the Joker decides to open up an art academy of his own to teach his students “the secrets of Modern art.” This is of course a plot, it is The Joker after all, in which one of Batman’s archenemies only accepts extremely wealthy citizens as his students in hopes to gain access to their money.

The Joker also brought the grade-A art snobbery with some fine quotes like:

“This is an outrage, an outrage against art, an insult I say!”
“Look at that, you call that art?”
“…these uncultured boobs have no appreciation for fine art.”
“We artists are not required to be nice, but only talented!”
“Handle them carefully boys, there’s ten million under those blankets.”
