!! OMG, How Profound: The Pale Blue Dot !!

We Are Here: The Pale Blue Dot from dmahr on Vimeo.

While people seem pretty into We Are Here: The Pale Blue Dot, a highly artistic/poignant “short film” (clip job) about the insignificance of human life on this here planet narrated by Carl Sagan, all I could think while I was watching it was, Didn’t someone else already make this exact point when I was in fourth-ish grade? And didn’t it have a more soaring melody?
See if you agree after the jump…

!! OMG, Animal realness on Philippines Got Talent !!

At first it seems like Big Mouth (aka BM) is just going to be your typical wacky Filipina teevee talent show drag queen. But how many drag queens do you know who whinny like horses, chirp like birds, and make crazy monkey noises during their performances?
Here’s hoping BM’s the next Susan Boyle…

!! OMG, How Rude: George W. Bush !!

Ew! Touching foreigners is gross! (Unless they’re oil barons, of course.)
Man of the people George W. Bush shakes hand with Haitian, wipes hand on Bill Clinton’s shirt. Well who knows where that’s been?
Oh, W. You know perfectly well that there’s only one cure for poor germs. Say it with me: circle circle, dot dot, now you have a cootie shot. All better!

!! OMG, More fun than the bus: Children attend school via zipline !!

zipline.jpg
In rural Colombia, a bunch of small children fly to school by ziplines 1,300 feet off the ground. Little Daisy Mora– 9 years old and pictured above– carries her little brother in a cloth sack as she zooms across a giant ravine on her way to class.
Meanwhile, back in the USA, you can get arrested for letting your children go to the mall by themselves.)

!! OMG, How Realistic: Paris !!

paris.png
This weekend was the first day of spring, and the weather in New York was great. Things I did included a stroll across the Williamsburg and a trip to the Met. Things I did not do included a trip to Paris! If you’re like me and you didn’t go to Paris this weekend but would like to see it, I highly recommend the very elaborate interactive tour at Paris 26 Gigapixels. It even includes slightly annoying (but very authentic, I guess!) Frenchy music!
