!! OMG, fight for your rights: Madonna shares the stage with Pussy Riot for Amnesty International Human Rights Concert !!

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, right, and Maria Alyokhina, center, of Pussy Riot appeared Wednesday at Amesty International‘s concert for human rights at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The pair were introduced by key supporter, Madonna, who said she wanted to thank the two women “for making pussy a ‘sayable’ word in my household. Now, my 8-year-olds say it all the time.” Classy! Madonna also talked about the death threats she received during her Russian tour, while Pussy Riot were on trial.

“Eighty-seven of my fans were arrested for gay behavior — whatever that is,” she said.

Nadezhda and Maria chose to speak in Russian with aggression and passion. A translator related the women’s speech.

“Freedom is not a given,” she translated. “It is something we have to fight for every day. It is our duty to speak for those who are still behind bars.”

Others involved in the night included Blondie‘s Deborah Harry who performed, Yoko Ono, who spoke, and Susan Sarandon, who was the evening’s co-host.

!! OMG, hunger games: Food Museums are so on trend in China right now !!

There’s really nothing more vexing to me than walking through a museum made up of hundreds of delicious and perfectly prepared meals from around the globe — only to find that you can’t taste them, and they’re all incased behind a glass vitrine!
This sounds like a nightmare worse than Kruger! However, in China right now — these twisted labyrinths are all the rage! According to the BBC:

The cuisine museum in the eastern city of Hangzhou is one of a growing number of food museums in China, but it’s probably the most magnificent. It occupies a large site in the scenic hills on the outskirts of town, and was built at a cost of nearly $30m (£18m). Unlike the more modest food museums in cities such as Chengdu and Kaifeng, which are run by private collectors, the Hangzhou museum has been funded by the city government, and entry is free of charge.
The Hangzhou museum has literally hundreds of life-sized models of mouth-watering food. Visitors can feast their eyes on replicas of Buddhist vegetarian dishes, snacks eaten by canal-dwellers in the Middle Ages, and the delicate sweet pastries made in Hangzhou during the Song Dynasty, 800 years ago. There’s a whole cabinet filled with different kinds of zongzi – the leaf-wrapped rice parcels eaten at the Dragon Boat Festival each spring, illustrating their historical evolution.

Forget feasting my eyes! I wanna feast my mouth! Check out some more photos of China’s food museum phenomenon after the jump!

!! OMG, how deplorable: Russian authorities continue to turn blind eye towards violent attacks on LGBT Russians !!

I know, it’s not the nicest thing to wake up to with your cornflakes and coffee, but it’s important that people see this video! Human Rights Watch has just released a graphic and shocking new video highlighting many of the various violent attacks on the LGBT community in Russia.
As circumstances for LGBT Russians continue to deteriorate, they are urging for the Russian government to take action and re-address their brutal stance ahead of the Sochi Olympic Games:

“The Russian authorities have the power to protect the rights of LGBT people, but instead they are ignoring their responsibility to do so,” said Tanya Cooper, Russia researcher at Human Rights Watch. “By turning a blind eye to hateful homophobic rhetoric and violence, Russian authorities are sending a dangerous message as the world is about to arrive on its doorstep for the Olympics that there is nothing wrong with attacks on gay people.”

Be warned — the video is not for the faint of heart:

!! OMG, welcome to the naapuruus: Finnish Olympic swimmer Ari-Pekka Liukkonen comes out (and raises awareness while he’s at it) !!

Finnish Olympic swimmer Ari-Pekka Liukkonen has come out of the closet. Luikkonen says the timing was very important to him because he wants to raise awareness about Russia’s anti-gay laws ahead of the Sochi Games. Via YLE:

“I wanted to start a broader discussion in connection with Sochi, because it’s sad that the legislation in Russia restricts the human rights of young people and others,” Liukkonen told Yle.
Liukkonen added that the Finnish sporting world was also in need of a more open attitude to sexuality.
“In the future I would hope that elite athletes and other people will not find homosexuality to be any kind of news,” said Liukkonen…
“As the matter wasn’t discussed, I tried to forget about it, but during high school I began to accept that I am made this way,” said Liukkonen. “Acceptance hasn’t necessarily been easy, but it hasn’t been horribly difficult either. This has been a long, slow process for me, but now I’m there.”

Aside from the fact that the immature 5-year old in me cannot WAIT to hear a British newscasters pronounce “Ari-Pekka”, this is obviously a great really thing for Liukkonen to do while at the games — particularly while still active in his sport! Congratulations to Ari-Pekka! And thanks for repping right in Putin‘s face. Face palm, Putin!

“It’s a really great feeling that I can finally be myself.”

!! OMG, dat chew Camilla?: Transvestite Artist Grayson Perry honoured by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace !!

“The idea that rebellion is at the margins of society – that’s false, it’s far more interesting to be mischievous from the centre.” – Grayson Perry

Turner Prize-winning artist, Grayson Perry, known for his ceramic vases and cross-dressing (those two always go hand-in-hand), was honoured by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace this past week for “30 years of hard graft” (that means 30 years of hard work in British speak, y’all!).
Perry worked a very Camilla Parker Bowles-esque look in a midnight blue dress and matching fitted jacket with a wide brimmed black-hat with some ostrich feathers for flare! Perry himself called the outfit very “Italian mother-of-the-bride”.
