Having recently written a piece on old musicals that need to be revived, the editor asked me to rewrite it, because he said his readership had never heard of such titles as No, No, Nanette, One Touch of Venus or Allegro. I could relate to this video because of that. We need to have college courses in things like American Cinema from 1970 and Gay Musical Theater History. I taught a film class for children and they’d ask to see the garbage their parents could get from Redbox, but I showed them movies with Buster Keaton, Charles Chaplin and Harold Lloyd, as well as the ones they liked the best, the 1946 Beauty and the Beast; Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland in The Adventures of Robin Hood; The King and I; The African Queen and the 1933 King Kong. I think they learned that there are great movies made before 1995! Even in black and white.
