!! OMG, RIP Kate McGarrigle !!

Sad news from north of the border: The family of Kate McGarrigle confirmed today that the Canadian folk legend died on Monday after battling a rare form of cancer. She was 63.
McGarrigle is best known for her work with her sister Anna as the McGarrigle Sisters and is the mother of performers Rufus and Martha Wainwright. Together the McGarrigle Sisters released 10 albums, in both English and French, and recorded with a variety of musicians, including Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Jarvis Cocker. Kate McGarrigle also frequently appeared on stage with her children, most recently at a Christmas concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London in December.
Above is a clip of the McGarrigle Sisters performing their most famous song “Heart Like A Wheel” in 1990. If you need more of an overview of Kate McGarrigle’s expansive career, check out this cute video that Rufus and Martha Wainwright created for a Canadian TV special paying tribute to their mom and aunt:

!! OMG, a Q&A with Owen Pallett !!

owen-web.jpg

This year is shaping up to be a big one for Owen Pallett, a.k.a. The Artist Formerly Known As Final Fantasy. The indie violinist has just released his debut album for Domino Records, Heartland, and as we reported previously, it’s an epic orchestral pop record with a homoerotic narrative about a super hot religious zealot named Lewis. He’s also featured in the January issue of Vogue and he just finished working on the score for John Cameron Mitchell’s new film, Rabbit Hole.

In his words: “There’s a part of me that knows that this is a year when I can send out for sushi or a year when I’m going to have to keep cooking at home.”

Pallett is also a big pop music fan. In addition to composing string arrangements for pop and indie acts such as Arcade Fire, Pet Shop Boys, The Last Shadow Puppets and Mika, he also likes to discuss and argue about the latest trends in Top 40 and R&B. We rang him up in New York after he wrapped work on Rabbit Hole to chat about Heartland, the time he got tanked in a club with the Pet Shop Boys, and his thoughts on Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.Read the full Q&A after the jump!

!! OMG, she wears Depends: Lady Kaka !!

lady kaka.jpg
Lady Kaka is trying to change the world one fart at a time. The big fat excuse of a woman has just “dropped” her latest and greatest new single “Bad Incontinence”, a paean to adult diapers, her giant ass and her epically-constructed turds. “Last week I went to see the movie 2012,” she says. “And I thought to myself, ‘I can squeeze one out bigger than that.'”
Fans please note that “Bat Incontinence” is the first song in which Lady Kaka demonstrates that she has a basic understanding of the French language.
And… if you’re rockin’ it in the T-Dot on Saturday night, be sure stop by the Hotnuts “Illusion of Privacy” party at The Beaver to see Lady Kaka drop it like it’s hot live.
