!! OMG, new Kids on TV remix! !!

KOTV-floor.jpg
Kids on TV will celebrate the release of not one, but two new EPs Shapeshifting Mutants and Remixes Volume 1 with a party at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto tomorrow. As long-time fans of their hunky art party antics, we were happy to see them make an international splash when their Blocks Recording Club label placed 11th on NME‘s Future 50 list of “innovators pushing music forward”. We couldn’t agree more. To celebrate, let’s all download a rather surf-y SIQUEMU remix of KOTV’s song “Poison”, which is taken from the Shapeshifting Mutants EP.

!! OMG, he’s on to Grindr: Nick Cave !!

nick cave poster.jpg
Last week I went to the Indigo bookstore in Toronto to see rock star Nick Cave, he of The Bad Seeds and Grinderman, and get him to sign my copy of his new novel, The Death of Bunny Munro. But I also had another motive: I wanted let him know about a gay tribute night called HARD ON FOR LOVE that I threw in his honor two months ago (at which OMG Frank made his drag debut as Kylie Manogue).
The poster for the event was amazingly gay. Nick Cave isn’t so fey and so we really had to gay him up on the poster to attract the requisite amount of homos. Of course I made sure to tell him that when I gave him a copy. As you can see from the above photo, he was thoroughly touched. He then said, “We’ve always had a hard time courting a gay audience” and proceeded to tell me about a ‘cottaging’ app for the iPhone called Grindr (some of you may know it). Perhaps when Grinderman’s new album comes out next year, he can cross-promote the tour using Grindr, that way his gay fans won’t feel so lonesome anymore.
Check out the HARD ON FOR LOVE poster after the jump.

!! OMG, how eclectic: new Wolf J McFarlane mixtape !!

wolf%20j%20mixtape%20cover.jpg
It’s a good thing we attend so many queer hip-hop jams in Toronto, otherwise we may not have ran into Wolf J McFarlane and his crew at Big Primpin’s Hot Mess Summer Blow Out and then caught his performance at Yes Yes Y’All two nights later. Wolf just put out his debut mixtape UpsideDownDay TapeMix, an eclectic blend of R&B, soul, hip-hop, synth pop, backpacker rap, piano solos and Brooklyn indie rock. The man does it all. Our favorite tracks are “Grizzly Bear Pandas”, a wistful rap redux of Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks”, and the spaced-out pots n’ pans club jam “Pose Vogue”. Listen to both below:

!! OMG, new Kids On TV video! !!

If you’ve ever attended a drag cabaret in Toronto, chances are you’ve had a gander at Keith Cole’s balls. The dynamic duo typically cameo about halfway through his notoriously intense, occasionally violent and always hilarious performances. Electro pop trio Kids On TV not only pay homage to the man with the hardest working horse chestnuts in Toronto with their song “Still on About Keith Cole”, they recruited him to conceive and direct the video, a homage to San Francisco theater troupe The Cockettes.
Kids On TV’s new EP “Shape Shifting Mutants” is out now on Chicks On Speed Records and will be released in Canada on Sept. 24 via Blocks Recording Club. Fans of Keith Cole can catch him and his array of low-cut dresses and hockey jerseys at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre this Friday, Sept. 11 at his new regular The Keith Cole Experience.

!! OMG, what to do in Toronto tonight: Big Primpin! !!

Primpin_Poster_Sept09.jpg
I don’t know about the rest of North America, but summer in Toronto sucked major ass thanks to a five-week garbage strike and a two-month hot weather strike. Tonight, Big Primpin will kiss this so-called summer goodbye with its Hot Mess Summer Blow Out party at Wrongbar. I’m Djing along with Hollyrock and Phil V. Doors are at 10pm and cover is $5. Facebook event here.
Also, Toronto’s AIDS Walk for Life is setting up a table at the party. Say hi, donate if you can, and get information on how you can join 10,000 other Torontonians walking on September 13 to support the continued fight against HIV/AIDS.
