!! OMG, have you got a minute to scare?: Director Jason Eisener’s ‘One Last Dive’ !!

I never saw The Conjuring while it was in theatres, but to promote the film, VICE and The Conjuring collaborated to produce “The 3:07 AM Project”. They asked 4 horror directors to create short films inspired by the “Devil’s Hour” (3:07 AM — the most haunted time of day).
One of my favourite contributions was from Canadian director, Jason Eisener‘s (Hobo With A Shotgun, V/H/S/2) who says:

Mission was to make a 1min 1 shot POV of something scary happening at 3:07am

If you’re falling asleep at your desk today, time to wake your ass up and check out Jason‘s ‘One Last Dive’ above!

!! OMG, putting his best SISY-PHUS forward: Mekele’s ‘Heaven’ !!

mekele_10152020138847454_1177610849_n.jpg
Based on The Myth of Sisyphus, from his forthcoming album Monolith and directed by -Rad Hourani and J.W. Anderson collaborator- Melissa Matos, this is Montreal songbird Mekele’s video for “Heaven” [after the jump due to nude-tones].
Amongst the introductory sound of ascending tonal clicks Mekele appears shaved, pallid and naked; planking, or dead, or just very much asleep on the beach, waking as he cantillates his first line:

“You’ve a pretty face, I want you to know my name, maybe you can show me heaven, I think I’m gonna love this place”

…I don’t mind admitting, with the hissing suspension of this simple phrase a single sandy tear fell from my cross-eye.
As electronic tearing sounds and a wiry drone play -all nudie and exposed- Mekele takes the BIGGEST BLOOMING ROCK-PET I’ve ever layed my cross-eyes on for an arduous walk on the beach, needless to say Mr Rock isn’t doing any of the leg work.
‘Mongst the heather Mekele ventures, rock pet in stubborn tow, a short rest on a grassy knoll and as the digital didgeridoo blows in and the sun sets on their strenuous stroll, I think Mekele decides this is one rock-pet that can clean up it’s own PEBBLE POOPS, brush it’s own moss and take itself for a wiley windy walkies.

“The process brought up questions about persistence and what drives us to do the things we do,” __director Matos.

!! OMG, isn’t your jumper just: DIVINE! James Long sweaters from Autumn/Winter 2013 Collection !!

dv1.jpg
A few months back I had the opportunity to catch I Am Divine, a documentary which tells the story of the life of Harris Glen Milstead AKA John Waters‘ muse, Divine. The theatre was packed, the film was great, and it painted the icon of bad taste as a very kind and loving man, which only furthered my interest in his legacy.
So, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that UK designer James Long recently paid tribute to the iconic actor in his Fall/Winter 2013 collection. The hand-knitted sweaters can be purchased for just pennies over at Browns for anywhere from £665-£725 per piece. (Personally, I’d say it’s worth it. Especially if you happen to be dating a rich US senator, or you’re on that show the A-List. Dallas or New York. If you’re reading this — you should probably just buy two.)
Check out some additional runway shots of the sweaters along with many more looks from JamesF/W 2013 show after the jump.

!! OMG, TRANSCEN-DENTAL-WORK: Tommy Nease’s ‘Pure Gothic’ photo series !!

1044646.jpg
Let’s face it, wearing black lip gloss, a pair of Doc Martins and a lace choker with a pentagram pendant does NOT make you a motherf*cking witch…it doesn’t make you a druid, hell girl it barely even makes you a goth…so beware of these cutsie little witchypoos because they are false and should be DROWNED IN THE WELL for crimes against subculture symbol stealing.
One artist who does -however- understand symbols from druidism, witchcraft and interstellar life-form theorems is North Carolina Photographer Tommy Nease. In his series Pure Gothic he explores his love of levitation, circles, and negative space as he uses the photograph as a meditative tool for understand his subconscious mind.

“If I were to give it a title I would say that I am a transcendentalist: I enjoy observing and documenting the reflection of the spiritual realm in nature.”

Click below to see several more from Nease’s series including some-fang, various levitation situations, and some of natures most glorious holes.

!! OMG, “the Roman Empire didn’t collapse, it took off into outer space”: Alex Taylor’s ‘Spaceship’ !!

Launched by UK film talent nurturing project Collabor8te Alex Taylor’s Spaceship centers around a fatalistic alien apocalyptic RPG meeting group who contemplate the idea that they themselves are aliens “without spaceships” [to escape].
Thus we follow a female group member who has been told she has energetic connections to angels and relates more to creatures than people; discarding her prescribed female anatomy and gender so she may painfully and publicly ani-morph into her own imaginary creature friend [a personification of everything she wanted to be as a child], a sort of creature couture with a tail and heels to boot.
As Taylor’s docu-style short delves into the protagonist’s fantasized lycanthropy she discusses a void of affection in her younger years which she feels now towards Beanie Baby-style cuddly Alien Trilogychestburster‘ creatures who’s invasive task in life-stage is to grow inside their human host and burst forth through said host’s chest…adorable of course.
Taylor’s tale culminates in an affectionate meeting between our couture creature-come-chainsaw wielding manga maniac humanoid ‘alien’ and a fellow druid-knight in cotton armor as she expresses her hopes for a post-invasion world:

“Afterwards is like a new world, people treat each other as equals and there are no wars as we stop assuming what people are like before we’ve met them, stop judging them and start being loving towards each other”

I hear you sister; me and Molder [not scepto-Scully] and the gender variants, and the D&D geeks, and Sigourney…ish !
