!! OMG, smells like weekend box office: The “Fame” trailer !!

Aaaaand speaking of Gaga, the Lady’s trailer for her debut fragrance “Fame” could just as well be an actual trailer, like for a movie. Seriously, watch it and tell me you don’t want there to be an IMAX 3D screening set in some futuristic alternate universe where the ladies are latexed and the guys are jockstrapped. Because I’d certainly pay $13.50 to watch two hours of that.

!! OMG, how decadent: The Continental Baths !!

Continental is a documentary that tells the story of legendary New York gay mecca The Continental Baths. Directed by Malcolm Ingram (Small Town Gay Bar – Sundance 06, Bear Nation – SXSW 10), the film explores the post-Stonewall, pre-AIDS bacchanal where Bette Midler and Barry Manilow got their start.

The Continental Baths was a seminal gay New York City hotspot that existed from the late sixties to 1974. The baths themselves were a lavish Roman style affair, which were opened in the late 60’s in a newly post-stonewall NYC. Owner Steve Ostrow wanted to create a decadent and luxurious clubhouse where newly liberated men could explore with wanton abandon.

Along with the baths, The Continental was home to glamorous shows that attracted first class performers such as Cab Calloway, Peter Allen, Wayland Flowers, Patti Labelle and a then unknown Bette Midler, who (with her piano player Barry Manilow) became ringmaster to the revelry.

Ingram is in the final stretch of a successful Kickstarter campaign. If this film sounds interesting to you, please consider helping him out!

!! OMG, pulling an Anderson Cooper: Mika sorta-kinda comes out !!

“If you ask me am I gay, I say yeah. Are these songs about my relationship with a man? I say yeah. And it’s only through my music that I’ve found the strength to come to terms with my sexuality beyond the context of just my lyrics. This is my real life.”

!! OMG, how generous: The Bezos’ donation to Seattle same-sex marriage campaign !!

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie have donated an astonishing $2.5 million to support same-sex marriage in a referendum campaign in Washington State. The donation was prompted by a heartfelt email from former Amazon employee and lesbian mother Jennifer Cast. Here’s an excerpt from her email:

“I want to have the right to marry the love of my life and to let my children and grandchildren know their family is honoured like a ‘real’ family,” Ms. Cast wrote. “We need help from straight people. To be very frank, we need help from wealthy straight people who care about us and who want to help us win.”

She was pretty shocked when she received this reply:

“Jen,” the e-mail said, “this is right for so many reasons. We’re in for $2.5-million. Jeff & MacKenzie.”

Let’s hope that their generosity is enough to counteract all the conservative money flowing into the other side and that the Washington marriage referendum will be the first of its kind to end in favor of same-sex marriage after 32 so far going the other way.
