!! OMG, Grace Jones’ ‘Hurricane’ album is finally coming out in North America !!

gracejones.jpg
Three years ago Grace Jones released Hurricane, her first LP of original material in nearly two decades, in the United Kingdom and Europe and now the album is finally getting an official North American release. Grace Jones completists take note: this release will include a bonus disc containing an all dub version of the entire album and smokin’ hot new cover art. We love us a disco ball hat, but the original sleeve and booklet featuring chocolate busts of Grace was really, well, original.
Hurricane comes out September 6 via PIAS America. Download the track “Sunset Sunrise” below and check out the NSFW video for “Love You To Life”, the third single from Hurricane, after the jump!

!! OMG, finally: Hercules and Love Affair’s ‘Blue Songs’ to get a U.S. release !!

Hercules-USrelease.jpg
As we denizens of the world are all too aware, borders continue to exist in the music industry. So even though we’ve been blogging about Hercules and Love Affair‘s Blue Songs for a year and listening to it since January, the album hasn’t actually received a proper North American release yet.
Well, the situation is finally changing. Fans languishing behind firewalls or living in abject fear of UK import prices can get their hands on the dance-pop group’s sophomore album when it comes out via Moshi Moshi on August 16. Three bonus tracks, including an excellent cover of The XX’s Shelter, and a second disc of remixes will be included in the release.
The band will also hit the road in August and September as part of the Identity Festival. Check out the tracklisting and tour dates after the jump.

!! OMG, how interesting: the inspirations for Madonna’s new album !!

jessica6-mo.jpg
So according to her manager’s Twitter feed, Madonna entered the recording studio on Monday to begin work on the follow-up to Hard Candy and rumors surrounding the producers and songwriters involved are already inundating our social media feeds. Like, she’s only been in the studio for two days and I’m already totally f*cking bored with this album.
Anyway, the most scintillating tidbit to surface over the past 48 hours or so is that many of Madonna’s reported inspirations are our favorite bands. So that is promising. According to the Mo fansite Queen Madonna, an anonymous source has claimed “the musical inspirations for this album include Jessica 6 (pictured), Beth Ditto and The Sound Of Arrows.”
Interesting… could news of a duet with Antony be far behind? Or perhaps a music video paying homage to Beth Ditto’s homage to “Justify My Love”?
Basically the gist of the coverage is that Madonna is working with up-and-coming producers so she can be perceived as a tastemaker just like back in the day when she worked with Björk and messed up her lyrics.
We’d much prefer it if Beth Ditto cut a solo LP or The Sound Of Arrows finally released an album, but if a giant pop star absolutely has to cop someone else’s style (is there no other way?) she could do worse. And incidentally, if The Sound Of Arrows don’t release an LP soon, perhaps Madonna will scoop them on their own fairy-dusted sound?

!! OMG, check out a new Hidden Cameras video and Pet Shop Boys remix !!

When we encountered Hidden Cameras main man Joel Gibb on the polite streets of Toronto a couple weeks back, he mentioned that he had just shot a new music video that prominently features several hot shirtless men, including himself. He added that it was filmed in a single take one sunny Saturday and co-stars a cast of Canadian gay-lebrities.
We LOVE us a good single-take music video so of course we had to check it out. “Send it on over you crazy biatch!” we said, wrist flapping in the breeze. And he did… along with this awesome Pet Shop Boys remix of another Hidden Cameras song, “Colour Of A Man”.

The Hidden Cameras 2011 summer tour dates:
July 7 – Vienna, Austria @ Arena Open Air Festival
July 28 – Emmaboda, Sweden @ Emmaboda Festival
July 30 – Derbyshire, UK @ Indie Tracks Festival
August 14 – Aranda Del Duero, Spain @ Sonorama Festival

!! OMG, SSION release new album ‘BENT’ for free download on the Internet !!

ssion_bent.jpg
The Internet was the talk of the Internet this week. Rumors abounded that Kanye and Jay-Z will release their long-delayed joint album online on Monday; Björk mused about never releasing another album in physical form ever again; and Prince vowed to stop recording all together until the Internet ceases to exist and things go back to the way they were in 1986 (or something like that).
Thank god for SSION‘s Cody Critcheloe who walked the talk and just went and released his band’s new album BENT online FOR FREE. F*ck all that privileged indecision! The New York-via-Kansas City group also recently performed the album as some sort of concept electro-popera co-starring Sky Ferreira and other celebrities at the MoMA PS1. Critcheloe describes the lead single “Psy-Chic” as “a new gay luv anthem about crystal meth and buying stuff.” Listen to it below and download the whole shebang here.

SSION performs at Toronto’s SHAME party on Sunday, July 3. Full details and ticket info via FB.
