!! OMG, music video round-up: Rye Rye, Uffie, Kele, La Roux & Sky Ferreira !!

It’s been a while since our last music video round-up. Frankly, there hasn’t been a whole lot of hot shit/super clever videos worth writing about of late but after doing a brief Internet search, we’ve found a few noteworthy pop videos that are water cooler worthy. So let’s get to it… Our first clip is courtesy of rapid-fire rapper Rye Rye and co-stars her mentor M.I.A. who is looking typically bad ass in a t-shirt that reads “F*ck Google, ask me!” The video is for Rye Rye’s summer-y mid tempo jam “Sunshine”, which we blogged about last week.

Second up is long-lost French pop star Uffie. Three years ago unctuous underground French electro rappers were all the rage but then suddenly they all vanished faster than you can say “tecktonik”. Uffie has returned, however, and the concept for her new video “Difficult” falls into the aforementioned hot shit/super clever category.

The last time charismatic British gym queen Kele dropped a new video the streets of New York were awash in his tears. Judging from the zany vid for “One The Lam” (in which he takes off his shirt and does chin-ups), he’s recovered from that experience.

!! OMG, It’s Coming to Broadway: Sister Act !!

Funny how everyone hates the pope and his army of molesty priests, but somehow nuns get off the hook every time! They’re beloved! Especially sassy black nuns singing Motown. Well everyone’s favorite sassy black motown singing nun (who isn’t really a nun unless I’m forgetting some crucial event in Sister Act 2) is making her way to Broadway to star in Sister Act: The Musical. The New York Times reports:
The musical, which has a score by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, will be directed by Jerry Zaks, a consultant on the Broadway incarnation of “The Addams Family.” It is to begin previews on March 24 with an opening night set for April 20. No casting was immediately announced for the show’s Broadway run
No word on the cast yet, but I’m hoping they find some way to involve Lauryn Hill!

!! OMG, hear the new Rye Rye track featuring M.I.A. !!

RyeRye-Sunshine.jpg
A certain other female MC might be receiving all the teeny bopper attention lately but if you like your rap fast and furious then Rye Rye is your gal. Hailing from Baltimore, she’s signed to M.I.A.’s record label N.E.E.T. Recordings and will release an album entitled Go! Pop! Bang! — three words that pretty much sum up her stage energetic presence — sometime in 2011.
For her new song “Sunhsine” she slowed down the tempo (but not her machine gun flow) and recruited M.I.A. to sing the chorus. If you’re planning on attending one of M.I.A.’s three remaining west coast tour dates this month, be sure to arrive early enough to catch Rye Rye’s Fly Girl moves.

Rye Rye’s fall tour dates (with M.I.A.)
Oct 12 – Oakland @ Fox Theatre
Oct 14 – Los Angeles @ Mayan Theatre
Oct 17 – Seattle @ Showbox
