!! OMG, Sasha Awa: ‘Sasha Cohen: Rite Of Spring’ by Jake Sumner !!

Beautifully shot by Sting’s super cute model-turned-directorial son Jake Sumner, three-time world championship medalist Sasha Cohen invites us onto the ice [please don’t we’ll slip and fall] to experience the transformative nature of dancing with knives on the bottom of your shoes, and becoming “part of something else, something bigger”.

“no matter how many people are part of your team, when you go out on the ice you are alone”

Sasha and I have very little in common, I can’t skate very well, I can’t afford to wear flesh-toned Nina Ricci [although would appreciate this to be the skating competition norm] and the only medal I ever won was for ‘best improved’…which basically means ‘shitest, but you got a little less shit after a long long time!’
We do, however share one thing in common, “If [Cohen] were a natural phenomenon, [she’d] be a rainbow”…me too girl…SAME!

!! OMG they’re blue da ba dee da ba die: Chelsea FC’s Adidas campaign !!

chelsea4.jpg
Entitled ‘It’s Blue, What Else Matters’, or more accurately ‘They’re Half Naked, What Else Matters’, a bunch of lads from London soccer team Chelsea felt inspired by Christina Aguilera to get themselves big blue facial squirts [insert side-mouth wipe here], for the launch of their new team uniform by Adidas.
Featuring blue-eyed babe Juan Mata and former Liverpool player Fernando ‘titties’ Torres, you can watch the promo video and the even hotter making-of after the jump.
“da ba dee da ba die”-for!

!! OMG, chin WANGing: Vogue Voices with Alexander Wang !!

Vogue Voices is a new series that delves into the stories, business ideas and aspirations of fashion designers.
First up is New York based Alexander Wang, who we featured in conversation with NYC rapper A$AP Rocky just last weekypoo.
Wang spoke to vogue of this very importance of music and musicians in his work, having recently explored the concept of a musical encore style runway show. He also discussed the importance of “elevating the everyday”, most exemplified by his T offshoot line which looks to make his brand more inclusive and affordable in order that he made derive the most joy from his work; seeing it on women, not just on the showroom floor.
Since Anna Wintour took the helm at American Vogue, I believe the magazine has lost a lot of the slower-paced sumptuousness which it once held, in favour of more gaudy advertisements, more pages with less information and romanticism between it’s covers; reading sometimes more like Heat Magazine than the larger glossier spreads of magazine like -say- Purple or W.
So it’s nice to see that they’ve taken a good few minutes of relatively candid and unedited video of Wang speaking of the importance of organic fluidity in the creative process, oh, and looking back on the one embarrassing aspect of his very first RTW collection…oops!

!! OMG, The Face [wrinkles edition]: Columbus Park’s Lok Tun Kun ladies !!

Filmed by Berliner Alexa Karolinski, fashion house Eckhaus Latta film the ladies of Columbus Park’s daily Lok Tun Kun “party”.
Donning pastel green and pink crop tops from Eckhaus Latta’s AW2012 collection, the ladies [and Mr Au, just ‘one of the girls’ at 01.55 in his cardi-crop-top] partake in their daily routine of dynamic synchronicity.
I’d love to see these ladies on the runway, all lined up in their off-white old lady corrective sneakers and elasticated poly-pantaloons, giving some seriously wrinkly FASHION FORWARD FACE!

!! OMG, Viva vacuum!: Clara Cullen’s ‘Airtight’ !!

I’m familiar with Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud’s work from their 2009 piece ‘Sylphides’ [see below] where they danced inside black body-bags scored by The Spice Girl’s tear-inducing track ‘Viva Forever’.
I know! Made of genius!
Filmmaker Clara Cullen who has worked under Werner Herzog and Spike Lee, has created this short film of fragments of Bengolea and Chaignaud’s works plus some new material from their La Ménagerie residency in Paris.

FYI, they also have a piece entitled ‘Altered Natives’ Say Yes to Another Excess-Twerk’. This -I’m thinking- is a great weekend mantra!
