Bat For Lashes (a.k.a. Natasha Khan) has followed up her torch-y single “Laura” with another tune off her forthcoming The Haunted Man album that bears a fabulous female name: “Marilyn.”
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Khan discussed the inspirations behind the new record, why she ditched her signature glittery headbands and her decision to get naked for the LP sleeve:
“I was looking at old pictures of Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, those raw women of the past, just not giving a shit. Or Frida Kahlo with her amazing eyebrows and mustache and I think that’s a bit lacking these days: real bodies, real people. So I’m proud of that aspect of it… I did have a freak out when it first came out… I’m only human, as much of me that is bad-ass and like, ‘Have it!’ I’m still conscious of the fact that people are seeing something quite vulnerable and raw. But I remember thinking: I don’t want to hide any more, I want to step forward and be bold with this album and it’s happened.”
The Haunted Man is out on October 23 via Capitol.
